There was a good turn-out for the 2nd Annual "Lady's Night" at Midland Street Pub on Bay City's West Side.

The event is a fund-raiser for the Nathan Weidner Foundation and a good crowd filled was on hand Tuesday night.

Midland Street Pub Owner, Rene Wyzgowski said she happy to be a part of the fund-raiser. "I really believe in the organization," said Wyzgowski. "The Weidner Foundation is good for the community and I am 100% behind their effort."

There was food, games, raffles, 50-50 drawings and items for sale that included jewelry, shop at home items as well as decorative hand-painted gourds. All of this designed to raise money for the Weidner Foundation.

Other prizes included a huge bottle of wine and golf packages at "The Dream" and "The Nightmare II." Both golf courses are located in West Branch, Michigan.

Other events associated with the Nathan Weidner Foundation are the yearly Chili Cook-off and the annual Chicken Bar-B-Que held at Veteran's Memorial Park in Bay City.

According to Mary Garcia, Public Relations Director for The Nathan Weidner Foundation fund-raising goes to support a scholarship program for children to attend Delta College.

The Chicken Barbecue, Chili Cook-off and Ladies' Night are held each year in memory of Nathan Weidner, who passed away in September 1994 (age 15) as the result of a tragic accident here in Bay City.

Weidner is remembered as a young man whose nature was to assist those friends he felt were in need by bringing them home for a meal, or giving his old bike away to a friend when Nathan received a new bike. That was typical of his personality and behavior, according to Garcia.

Garcia went on to explain that Memorials were first given at his funeral (he was 15 when died) in his memory for use as the family wished. After much thought, it was decided to begin a foundation that assisted neglected and needy youth in Bay County.

"The scholarship program began first. Then the chicken BBQ was developed to involve the community in the fundraiser," Garcia explained.

The Foundation's long-term goal is to establish a permanent home for the many abused or neglected children or young adults that exist in Bay County and are in need of such a home.

"That's been our goal since before the BBQ and all of these other fund-raisers began," Garcia said.

"I think that Nathan would be proud of the on-going efforts to help the youth of Bay County," Garcia said.

GOOD TIME = GOOD CAUSE - (L/R) Stephanie Wright, Joell Mayer and Debbie Stevens were at the Weidner fund-raiser. "We're having a great time," Stevens said.
