MyBayCity.com, along with Hank Graff Auto dealerships, proudly announces their first recipient of the boys and girls' Player and Coach of the Month for December 2007 in local high school hoops.

Brad Norman of Bay City Central and Lauren Bluhm of Bangor John Glenn are the winners of the players' award, while Kim Klein of Bay City Western was selected as Coach of the Month for December. (Articles on Klein and Bluhm will appear in Sunday's MyBayCity edition)

Brad Norman, the one sport specialist, burned the nets in December for the Wolves but the floor general was selected not only for his scoring but for his "complete package" on the court.

The 5'10" senior capped a great month of output by pouring in 44 points against Remus Chippewa Hills in the Fenton High School Holiday Tournament win for the Wolves.

Although Central was picked to be near the bottom of the always tough SVL, Norman's reputation as a complete player is not going unnoticed.

Norman, whose first memory of organized hoops began at a very young age at the Bay Area Family YMCA, has continued his hoops education by attending many basketball camps through the years, and it is paying off in huge dividends this season for the Central senior.

When asked if there was any coach who influenced his basketball prowess, his response was apt, and sorrowful. "My dad, Tom Norman, was my basketball inspiration my whole life, but he passed away in September," he said.

How difficult it must be for this young man to maintain his intensity and composure with such an important influence out of his life.

Although his father is not in the stands for the 2007 season, he is now even closer in his heart and in his head, and Norman knows what his father would expect from him as a leader and role model.

"More people are becoming aware of his skills, and more people are watching him big time, and with that comes more responsibility," said his coach, Mike Machiejewski.

Norman's numbers in December seem to buoy the fact that he's ready. Norman averaged 20 points per game, 3 assists and shot 86 percent from the free throw line and his most shining statistic - 40 percent from three point range.

His father would be very proud, just as he was from the many accolades his son garnered from many of those basketball camps that Brad attended.

This is what Bankhoops had to say about about Norman back in early September: "One of the top all-around players at the camp, Norman caught the eye of a lot of coaches with his basketball I.Q. and sweet stroke from long range. Norman won't be an unknown for long in the City by the Bay."

As a top ten performer from the better than 100 up-and-coming prep basketball players who descended upon Swartz Creek, for the eastside edition of the 2007 Bankhoops All-State Mini-Camp at the Cage Fieldhouse, they had him listed at number 7 and described him, "as well-rounded as they come at this level."

Norman has been a regular attendee of the CMU Basketball Camp since he was "little," as he stated. Another more elite camp Norman attended was the 5-star in Pennsylvania. The 5-Star camps alumni are a "who's who" in NCAA and NBA basketball.

Norman is a student of the game and is probably one of the true pure shooters in the county.

MyBayCity.com and Graff Chevrolet salute Brad Norman as the Player of The Month in December and wish him luck in '08.###
