Tucked back behind the short cut around Standish just east of Old State Road on Worth Rd. is the now open Chippewa Indian Tribe's Saganing Eagles Landing Casino.

The new casino is enjoying a "soft opening until they finish up with the Subway Deli next to the bar near the stage where we will have live music," said one kind security man on duty.

By the looks of things the "soft opening" is not so soft as they had reached capacity and had to wait for patrons to leave before others were allowed to enter.

The view from the well-heated entryway is exciting though, in addition to the Antler chandeliers you hear the bells, whistles and see flashing lights and sirens.

There are three cavernous post beam halls with waves of electronic games of all shapes and sizes for what seems endless.

You are above the gaming floors when you enter and you have to step down into the array of machines as you're assaulted by the dings, rings and whoops coming in clear stereophonic sound now from the highly decorated slots to the right and poker machines to your left.

Nearly every seat was taken and the ones that are not, the monitor in the center of the machine reads "out of service."

As you look back towards the entry wondering if you will be able to find it once you enter the chasm of blinking and blinging machines you will notice the "Players Club" counter with a line up of 20 some people waiting for their credentials.

The amount of people already plugged into the machines with their fresh black cord with a shiny chrome clip attached to their shirt, was surprising for this "soft opening" they are supposedly having.

It's a trial by experience for everyone new on duty as they have been open to the public just under 46 hours. From now on, they will be open 24 hours a day seven days a week for anyone wanting to scratch that gaming "itch" anytime.

"Right now we just have the electronic games, slots and poker, but we will eventually put card tables in, once everyone's trained," added one security supervisor.

There is plenty of security as many individuals prowled the floor undisguised yet obvious in their duty to observe the gaming going on in all directions at once -- maybe it was their walky-talkies they all had that gave them away.

The machines range from penny machines, nickle machines, dimes, quarters and dollars and all are progressive (you play multiples more than the original bet to win multiplied pay-outs.) and they all take bills like the car wash; ones, fives, tens and twenties, maybe fifties and hundreds too.

The machines also take one of those cards on the lanyard that clips to the person gambling, you must get those re-charged at the Players Club counter.

After passing what seemed like hundreds of machines and a few open ones, I finally chose a penny machine at the end of one of the halls where it was not quiet but quieter.

I plunged my first dollar into the slot and pressed the first button to my left bling bling bling I won five ching, ching, ching, ching, ching I have one hundred and five credits.

I repeated these same steps frantically until the monitor read "Game Over: please put more money in to continue playing."

I had enough of that machine the whole minute and a half that it took, maybe two but it was worth the dollar I spent and I won, I was up 775 credits or $7.75 from the time I sat down.

I was ready for another conquest, unfortunately the twenty I thought I had in my pocket was only a one and I parlayed that into another nine minutes - searching out my dubious prey - this time one of those quarter machines with the paper money slot.

This time I played nearly six minutes before the machine asked me for more dollars which I had none but I was way up on her at one point, Ill be back. ###
