After scoring just two points in the first quarter of Friday night's game against Standish Sterling Central, the Bobcats got the ball rolling -- through the nets that is.

Knocking off perennial North East Michigan Conference bully 44-33 was quite an accomplishment for the lady Bobcats who have lost their last ten games against the Panthers by an average of 19.3 points.

After honoring Post player Lauren Bluhm this past week with Player of the Month honors in December (see Bluhm article), this writer/photographer noticed how loose this team was after attending their practice Thursday afternoon.

The lady Bobcats were proud of their post players' accomplishments and knew it was a win for their whole team to have a player selected.

Not only are individual players getting noticed but the Bobcats as a whole will no longer be an easy win on opponents schedules.

Watch out NEMC , we have a bona fide contender right here in Bangor Township.

They truly played as a team Friday night with a packed house of Bobcat supporters cheering them on.

Glenn (5-3, 2-2) were led by junior Breane Krager's 12 points while another eight of her teammates helped out on offense, every team mate helped on defense as they swarmed all over the Panthers when they had the ball.

Glenn's tenacious defense held the Panthers 22 points under their average offensive output.

Standish-Sterling (6-3,3-1) was held without a basket from 2:44 left in the third period until the final buzzer.

"That was a great win for the whole program," said second year coach Sara Doyle.

Bluhm, who got into foul trouble early and ended with just five points had to watch as her team mates kept the perennial powerhouse in check most of the game without her presence underneath.

Unfortunately for the Bobcats a win like that propels them out of the underdog role they have earned the past four years and it makes their team and their program a legitimate contender, wherever they are playing.

The Bobcats will host 2-6 Caro Tuesday night in another NEMC match-up.
