Pinconning boys basketball team is quietly putting the foundation in place on the "Bay County Title," with a 53-51 overtime win Friday night against John Glenn.
Coupled with their kick off classic wins against All Saints and the Bobcats, two more wins in mid February over Western and another over John Glenn the Spartans could have their first sweep over Bay County teams in a very long time.
Friday nights game was either teams to win as the Bobcats Josh Snider canned two pressure free throws with just 1.9 seconds left in regulation to force the extra stanza.
That's when Pinconning's Josh Federspiel kicked his game up a notch and scored five of his career high 21 points to put the pesky Bobcats away.
Pinconning (9-2, 4-2) coach Tim Floyd was very relieved with the final outcome as he had this to say, "We were lucky to get
this win. John Glenn plays a lot of good defense, and that three pointer at the end of regulation didn't help much. This was a big win."
That Three pointer along with the free throws erased a five point lead for the Spartans in the closing minute of regulation.
Noting the importance of Friday nights win, "Ogamaw lost, so were still in it," added Floyd speaking about the North East Michigan Conference Title.
The Bobcats (3-9, 2-4) were led by Charles Baumer's 14, Chris Schumann had 11 while Jordan Shumann and Jordan Snider each added nine in their balanced attack.
February 19th at John Glenn they tip it off again in their third meeting, Bobcat coach Dale Clyde hopes the third times a charm for his Bobcats.
