A fundraiser for the care and rehabilitation of Matt Allison will be at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 360 S. River Road, Bay City on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 3:30-7:00 P.M..

There will be silent auctions, a bake sale and takeouts available. Additional monetary donations will be accepted to the Matt Allison Family Fund at National City Bank, 610 Lafayette, Bay City 48708.

"Matt Allison is just a real nice kid," said Janelle Thomas who worked with Matt at AT&T in Saginaw this past summer.

Matt was severely injured in a car accident December 28th coming home from a day of skiing at Caberfae near Cadillac.

Matt, who is the youngest of three is just 20 years old, he is a Bay City Central High graduate and is in his third year in the Northwood Management program.

"He got along with everybody even though he was in tough position as a management intern in a large union department." Added Thomas.

The unfortunate turn of events that afternoon has left Matt with an undetermined extent of brain damage, a punctured lung and a crushed shoulder and right arm.

The crash is still under investigation but weather may have played a role in it.

Adam Sheppard, Matt's friend was tired behind the wheel so Matt offered to drive. Adam escaped the tragic crash with just cuts and bruises and remembers Matt's fateful words, "what the," as he woke to headlights coming through the windshield.(Within a mile of trading seats)

It was a very snowy afternoon and that stretch of highway has steep hills and long passing lanes. Matt was driving Adam's fathers Cadillac while the other vehicle they collided with was a large truck.

"Matt is a great kid, not because he is my nephew but because his parents did a real good job with him," said Mielens.

"Matt was helping his sister and his mom frost Christmas cookies just a few days before the accident," added Aunt Chris.

Mike and Lori Allison are Matt's parents and have been with him around the clock during his recovery.

"Its tough for them right now being over in Grand Rapids but the care pages have been a Godsend for updates," said Connie Allison, Matt's aunt.

The Care pages are Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids blog page for patient's families to post updates and keep in touch while being out of touch for so many hours at a time inside a hospital.

"Matt was supposed to be in Colorado right now doing another 4 month internship for Sitouri USA which is a skiing marketing and advertising firm," said his aunt Chris.

"Every day is a new situation for Matt. Please keep praying for him to remain strong and steady with his recovery," as posted by sister, Sara Allison on his care page.

Thrivent for Lutherans is co-hosting the event at the K of C Hall on Tuesday afternoon.
