What started out as a much anticipated match up of North East Michigan Conference leaders battling it out for first place turned into a lesson in fundamentals.
Good aggressive defense and high percentage shots win basketball games.
John Glenn (9-5, 5-3) girls learned the hard way dropping a 45-28 game to outright league leader Tawas Tuesday night on their home court.
The Bobcats came out strong on defense holding the Braves to just five points in the first quarter but only mustered nine of their own.
In a seemingly odd juxtaposition, John Glenn was held to just five in the second, while Tawas lit it up for fifteen to take a 20-14 lead into halftime.
That was not John Glenn's worse quarter. After trading ten in the third, Tawas turned up the heat in the Bobcat gym.
With a stifling defense and a steady supply of lay-ups off turnovers the Braves ate up the Bobcats in the fourth, outscoring them 15-4 for the seemingly lopsided win.
The Bobcats did not help their cause as they shot a poultry 15 percent from the field (7-for-46).
Lay-ups will be the flavor of the week for the Bobcats as they missed many uncontested layups very near the basket.
Lauren Bluhm led John Glenn with 11 points.
Tawas improved to 13-2 overall and 7-1 in conference hosts Pinconning on Thursday, while Glenn is traveling to Whittemore-Prescott.
