After the Cougar JV team narrowly added another win to their now 17-2 record, the Varsity Cougars hoped to end their shaky season on a good note before districts next week. Thursday night was dubbed "Senior Night" and thus five seniors would hit the court to start out the nights crusade.

When the Patriots drove one in in the first 15 seconds of game, the Cougars came to life and answered back with their own two pointer. This stalemate continued for the whole first period, and at its end, the score stood at 19-16 U.S.A. The second period was frustrating for the Cougars. Unable to connect on drives and fast breaks, as well as series of Cougar fouls and turnovers gave the Patriots an upper hand; and the chance they were waiting for. The Patriots surged ahead to gain an intimidating 36-24 lead at the end of the first half.

Despite the scoreboard, the Cougar Pom Pon team would dazzle the crowds one last time this year before ending what has been a incredible season for them. Regardless of some of the bumps along the way, the Pom Pon team would establish a legacy for the 2008 season that will be remembered by many, and forgotten by few.

What no one outside the locker room knew was at the same time that the Pom Pon team was wrapping up their distinguished season, Coach Mike Showalter was telling his dejected team "When I go home tonight, I want to know who the tougher team out there was!" Coach would later comment that "...I definitely think that it was us tonight".

Responding to their coaches cry for strength, the Cougars would hit the court and play a "tough" second half. As unpatriotic as it may have seemed, the Cougars would hit the Patriots with everything they had learned from their season. Despite the Cougars effort, the Patriots would cling to their ten point lead that would endure till the end, when time finally ticked away on the Cougars. The Patriots would walk away with a 71-63 victory.

Although their record isn't anything to brag about, the Cougars would have a "learning season" that Coach Showalter said "would help them next season". Next year Showalter plans to once again lead the Cougar varsity - however next year the team will feature new faces from this years JV team, and some returning veterans. The Cougars may have ended their season, but they will get to travel to Port Hope on Monday to play in the districts. Sophomores Justin (6'6") and Thomas Villano (6'5"), will move up from the JV team.
