Hitting the road for the districts the Cougars left a shaky season behind them as they traveled to Port Hope for the opening game of the Class D districts. The smaller, nine-man strong Bluestars from Port Hope would serve as the Cougars first obstacle in the districts.

The Cougars started out the night on a sour note. Only hinting at their true power, the Cougars managed only ten points in the first period, and let one three pointer make it to the scoreboard. Cougars were ahead on the board, yet nowhere near where they could have been had they worked better together. However all that fell away when, during the break before the second began, Cougar Coach Mike Showalter told the guys "don't try to be heroes!" Hitting the court for the second period, the Cougars soared ahead of the Bluestars ending with a halftime score of 37-3 on the big board.

In the third period Showalter cleared his bench and threw everyone he had at the Bluestars. Mercilessly, the Cougars sunk shot after shot, and likewise their defense overwhelmed the team of mostly young Bluestars, and successfully kept the them away from the basket. The Cougars would rack up a score of 55-3 and the fourth period promised to be the same story as the third.

However after being worked over on the court, the Bluestars showed signs of life at last. The Port Hope defense managed to shut down the Cougars offensive blitz and on the flip side their offense improved slightly. To cheers from the Bluestar fans, who seemed to not notice the score, Ryan Abraham #21 sunk the second three pointer of the night near the very end. The Cougars spread their points around; with only Mario Walker hitting double digits with 12 points.

Despite the Bluestars best efforts, the Cougars came out, overwhelmingly, on top 60-6. Coach Showalter would quote that "We got used to the routine, and hopefully we'll feel more comfortable next time". After courteously shaking the other teams hands, and a trip to the concession stand; the Cougars stayed to watch the first few minutes of the second district match-up between the Akron-Fairgrove Vikings and the Owen-Gage Bulldogs. The Bulldogs would go on to join the Cougars in the winners circle.

The Cougars will have a day off before once again making the journey to Port Hope to face off against the Caseville Eagles on Wednesday night.
