If you're looking for a good time, my suggestion is that you follow Doug Dore around Bay City. Doug Dore wants you to have a good time.

Stable's Martini and Cigar Bar has a great year-around Talent competition every Wednesday night. John Buehl and his staff at Stables do a super job setting the mood for singers and musicians.

And as you already know, MyBayCity has somewhat adopted the Michigan's Got Talent Wednesday night "Gig" as their own. MyBayCity videos all performances and promotes the event with weekly coverage in their on-line newspaper.

But the fuel that drives the train is Doug Dore. And Doug Dore provides fuel with a very high octane rating. Once Dore takes the stage at Stables, it's "get on board . . . or get out of the way."

"Anybody Awake Out There," Doug Dore yells to the crowd, whenever he feels the crowd is not totally INTO IT.

It's no wonder Dore seems to enjoy his "job" so much . . . HE JUST LOVES MUSIC and the music business.

"I've been doing Karaoke for close to twenty years now," Dore said between sets at Stables recently. "This IS my day job," he smiled

Dore began singing with local "garage bands" back in the good old days. Dore remembers playing at the old SandsBar, Shipwreck and Holland House. Band names like "Nuke and the Whales" and "Mad Max" came to mind as Dore reminisced about his early days in music. Names like Kim Nowak, Steve Hebert and Chet Rytlewski also came to mind as musicians that Dore shared a stage with.

"Now I got close to 6,000 song titles on disk for Karaoke," Dore said pointing to his filing system of songs and artists.

Dore has played the circuit of Karaoke through the years in Bay City. Cruisers, Beasties, Pharmacy, Lucky's, Old City Hall, Amigos and Horseshoe are bar names that came to mind.

"Last time I had a REAL job was back in 1989," Dore said.

But Dore keeps busy with his Karaoke. Monday's he's at Hooters with a musical game called "Sound Bytes." Tuesday, he's up North at Mort's and Wednesday it's back to Stables for the Michigan's Got Talent program.

"I keep busy," Dore chuckled." Dore went on to say that some time back in the mid-90's he peaked as far as activity is concerned. "In 1994," Dore said, I think I worked 378 shows in 365 days.

That's Busy!

Catch Doug Dore's act every Wednesday at Stables Cigar and Martini Bar's Michigan's Got Talent Competition. Come prepared to have a good time.
