The Friends of Celtic Culture (www.friendsofcelticculture.org) somehow pulled one of the hottest international Celtic rock bands to Bay City to perform at the State Theater last Saturday.

The Young Dubliners band had to be inspired by the setting, accoustics and energy from the Spirited Bay City crowd!

For those in attendance it couldn't have been a better start to Bay City's month long ode to Saint Patrick.

Just as cabin fever was at its fevered pitch of this enduring winter, this show was a prescription for pent up energy.

The Young Dubliners did not disappoint.

The high-energy show was just what the doctor ordered. A prelude to spring, the Saint Patricks Day Queen Pageant, the Saint Patricks Day Parade, a celebration of Gaelic pride...a release.

The Young Dubliners with their Dublin born lead singer, uileann pipe, fiddle, mandolin and rock and roll core had the crowd jiggin in the aisles.

The Guinness was flowing and the band was kickin.

As stated on their official web site (www.youngdubliners.com); Musing about the band's sound, Roberts (lead singer) sums up the Young Dubliner's approach to their music, be it Celtic, Irish, or just plain rock. "I like to think that our take on songwriting and performance makes the Young Dubliner's sound unique and original. Our band is made up of Irish and American natives who draw influences from just about everywhere. Our strength is in the sum of our parts. We play as a band, as one."

The Dubliners teased the crowd early in the show with the volume down and the lights high, the inverse made hearts pound and the "Irish Jig" could be seen and heard throughout the theatre.

The Young Dubliners may be one of the hardest working bands in show business. If you were not lucky enough to catch the show, they will be on the CBS morning show, THE EARLY SHOW, on Mar 15th.

This is a National Network TV show, and they were just here in Bay City.

The Friends of Celtic Culture pulled off another spectacular show Saturday evening featuring The Young Dubliners! The State Theater couldn't have been a more perfect venue for the hard rockin' Irishmen.

The band has 18 more shows throughout the USA from Chicago to Los Angeles this month and then is off to Ireland to rock the Island.

When I called Hammond Tours (www.hammondtours.com) to find out about the trip I was informed there were nearly sold out of the 120 available spots. For the fans of the Young Dubs, the $1800.00 guided Ireland Celtic Band tour will be just as unforgettable as the night at the State.

Hard-core Young Dubliners fans, Angela Nowlan and Carrie Fitzgerald pose with MyBayCity.com's reporter. Angela and Carrie traveled from their hometown of Los Angeles CA following the bands tour, also catching their previous show at the House of Blues in Chicago! Now that is dedication!

The Young Dubliners are a band of the people as they obliged their new Bay City faithful by showing up after the show at Rickers Green Hut to toss back a few Guinness with their new fans. It seemed as though every one in attendance at the show ended up crammed into the Hut to rub elbows with the band.

The band just released their eighth album, "With All Due Respect, The Irish Sessions." As stated by lead singer Keith Roberts, "On Dec 8th 2007, we entered the studio only to emerge seventeen days later with thirteen songs of love, war, emigration, incarceration and drinking. Along the way we gained an even deeper respect for the melodies and lyrics of these writers. They evoked many emotions and feelings not only in those of us from Ireland who previously knew these songs but also in the Americans who were hearing them for the first time."

They will probably be playing their soon to be hit, "If I should Fall From the Grace of God," on the Morning Show.

Mybaycity salutes the Friends of Celtic Culture for their diligence in bringing incredible Celtic bands to our hometown and we would like to extend an invitation to everyone to their next show, "Fonn Mor," April 26th at the Masonic Temple.

In the mean time, pray for warm weather to melt off this snow and dry out the parade route and we will be seeing you at the parade on the 16th. Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
