A welcome change from the long bus ride to Port Hope, the Cougars travelled only the short distance to Deckerville for Monday nights duel of the titans. Following their team to the Regional showdown, the Cougar fans rallied together in support of their team. As it turned out, a major factor in the Cougars performance could be credited to the stellar support emanating from the stands.

Taking off from the tip-off, the Cougars were drawn into a offensive duel with the Soldiers of Genesee Christian. Fighting with all the tactics and experience the Cougars had from the Districts, the Cougars sliped ahead and blasted in 15 points by the end of the First period.

The second period was an offensive success on the Cougars part. Sending salvo after salvo against the battered Soldiers, the Cougars intense offensive surge gained ground on the board with points tacked on by key weapons in the Cougars arsenal. In war, you have to make sure you have the right tool to get the job done.

In the Regionals, you have to have the right Cougars to get the job done. Ollie Hull, and Preston Oakes were the super weapons the Cougars needed to get the job done. Hull blasted in 22 points, and Oakes slammed in 18 points of his own. While the Soldiers offense foundered against the Cougars unstoppable defense, the Cougars racked up a score of 33-24.

But during the half the Soldiers regrouped and came out fighting in the third period with a fire in their hearts, and their minds set on crushing the Cougars. Savagely attacking All Saints with everything they had, Genesee Christian proved why they are rightfully called the Soldiers.

Smashing through the Cougars previously unassailable defense, the Soldiers offense decimated the Cougars lead, and then surged ahead. But before time expired the Cougars answered right back with a two pointer to make the score 47-46, with the Cougars hanging on to the lead.

At this point, the battle could have gone either way. Luckily the Cougar's endurance and courage under fire prevented them from falling apart and being overtaken by the Soldiers. The Cougars offense had recovered from their third period lull, and were ready to make their final stand.

Blasting past the Soldiers defensive lines, the Cougars once again established a secure lead. Enduring the artillery barrages of the Soldiers' desperate last minute three point shots, the Cougars finally raised the flag in victory 68-54.

The Cougars had won the battle, but the war was only beginning. The Cougars will fight for the Regional Title on Wednesday night.
