Mike Showalter head coach of Bay City All Saints accomplished what no other coach in Bay City could; he brought home another District Title to All Saints, his fourth in six years as head coach.

For his efforts he has been chosen our February Hank Graff Coach of the month.

The sixth year coach has been at this game (coaching) for a long time. Showalter had been an assistant varsity and freshman head coach at Beaverton for seventeen years before bringing his winning ways to All Saints.

Showalter is still the physical education teacher at Beaverton, a position he has held since 1986. "I put on almost a hundred miles a day commuting," said Showalter.

MyBayCity asked the coach what his first recollection of organized hoops was? "My father coached at Ithaca and I followed along on many games and played a lot with my brothers," was his reply.

The CMU graduate has had the competitive fire in his belly since high school where at Ithaca he was chosen as an All State running back in 1977, while also playing basketball and running the 200 and quarter-mile in track.

Showalter is already excited about next season as he reminisced about this season, "We finished the right way with a pretty young team, we lost a lot of close games that should have gone our way but I'm excited about the size we have coming back and couple of the sophomores coming up."

During his tenure the Cougars have won four District Titles and two Regionals, All Saints doesn't rebuild under Showalter they reload.

Showalter looks for constant improvement with high expectations as he stated, "We should have played better in League play...but we'll be back."

Playing in the Greater Thumb West League, the Cougars play eternally tough USA while Reese went undefeated in the regular season.

MyBayCity asked if it helps come tournament time being a class "D" school playing in such a tough league? "Yeah it makes us better but we look at every game as just another on the schedule, we show up ready to play, no matter who were playing."

After reaching the quarterfinals in 2004 and 2006 the Cougars continue to have high expectations and that's just what coach Showalter wants out his players.

After going 7-4 in February and 4-1 in the State Tournament, MyBayCity and Hank Graff salute Cougar coach Showalter as the Coach of the Month.
