The Fourth Annual Blessing of The Wheels held last Saturday at St. Joseph's Parish on Third Street was a huge success.

The classic oldest Catholic church in the Saginaw Valley was a nice back drop for the classic cars on display.

After outgrowing its original Village Hall location, the show is growing up to be a worthwhile event for the spectators, participants and the parish.

The blessing provided by Father Dale Orlik was mostly appreciated by the classic car owners except for the Holy-Water spots left on some of those cars may be the only spot on them.

Father Dale was generous in his blessings and the wind seemed to help the Holy Water be spread throughout the show.

There were old classics and new custom cars being enjoyed by young and old alike.

Having a show in the spring like this gives the show car owners a good reason to blow the dust off their babies, show them off, compete for trophies and awards and get the bonus blessing.

The Best of Show winner was this gleaming 57' Chevy owned by Dave and Judy Lamblin of Bay City.

According to Growing in Faith bulletin insert May 2008, when a man becomes a priest or deacon, he is endowed with the authority to bless objects or people in the name of the church. When he blesses something, he invokes God's power and care on it. Thus blessing it dedicates it to God's service. Knowing something has been blessed can help us remember to treat it with respect and appreciate it as a gift of God's favor.

When your talking about 450 plus horsepower on some of these show cars, a dedicated blessing cannot hurt.

The car show, luncheon and bake sale raised over $1400.00 for Saint Joseph's Parish to be used for their emergency food pantry or whatever they may need.

Saint Joseph's is the oldest Catholic church in the 11-county Saginaw Diocese. Organizer terry Kemp said, "they were discussing fundraisers and the standard chicken or spaghetti dinners were brought up when I(Kemp) suggested doing something different, now here it is in its fourth year and we had almost 80 cars entered."

Best of Show honors went to Dave and Judy Lamblin of Bay City with their sky blue 57' Chevy while Fathers Choice selected by Father Dale was a 24' Packard owned by T.K. Jones.

Congratulations to this years winners and if you would like to be in next years show and have your vehicle blessed, just call the St. Joe's Parish office at 989-895-5783 to be put on the mailing list for next year. Terry Kemp informed me that every other Friday at Mussle Beach and Dutch Village will be holding a Cruise with prizes awarded to best Car, motorcycle and truck. "we had our first one two weeks ago and had almost 70 cars in it," said Kemp. "Our next one is May 23, and every two Fridays after that," added Kemp.

A kind of funny message to be displayed at a church blessing but it fit the gangster car to a tee.

Organizer Terry Kemp and Saint Joe's Parish would like to thank all the sponsors of the car show. Due to the long list of sponsors all could not be listed but you are due the gratitude of helping.
