Learning From the Past - Shaping the Future, Theme of SBTDC Event

Top Tri-County area entrepreneurs will highlight Entrepreneurs Day to be held Wednesday, June 18 at Delta College.

Theme of the event is "Learning From the Past - Shaping the Future."

Two different sessions featuring local entrepreneurs and regional success stories will kick off the meeting at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Among panel participants are Terry Duperon and Tammy Bernier of Duperon Corp., Saginaw; Mike Fox, of Midland's Ingenuity IEQ; Rob Monroe, of Gougeon Brothers, Bay City; and Kathie Fuce-Hobohm, of Space, Inc., Midland.

Break-out sessions beginning at 3 p.m. will include the following topics:

  • Careering: Options to Consider;

  • How Women Entrepreneurs Thrive in the Business Community;

  • The Importance of Cultural Diversity in the Entrepreneurial Community;

  • Regionalism and the Effect of Entrepreneurship on the Local Economy;

  • Delta College's Entrepreneurship Certificate; and

  • Marketing Research - How Libraries Make it Happen.

    The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center network provides a full range of services for a variety of small businesses that are emerging and growing throughout Michigan -- new venture companies, existing small businesses, expanding businesses, new technology companies, and innovators.

    The MI-SBTDCTM is known throughout Michigan for its quality counseling, training and market research capabilities. All services are available at low- or no-cost because of the financial support of the U.S. Small Business Administration and local partners in each region.

    "We meet one-on-one with small business owners to assist in developing strategies to grow or change their company," says Christine Greve, of the Delta center. "Consultants include insightful established professionals who provide their knowledge and expertise regarding business development." Examples of assistance provided are as follows:

  • Business planning and development

  • Employee relations

  • Business problems resolution

  • Access to financing

  • Marketing strategies

  • Accounting/bookkeeping

  • Research and development

  • Marketing Analysis

    This service is provided at no cost for business owners.

    Seminars, workshops and programs are offered throughout the year for new venture and young businesses. These workshops are designed to provide a basic understanding of all facets needed to operate a business. The Calendar of Training may be checked for workshop descriptions, dates and registration.

    As part of the MI-SBTDC network and through the Seidman College of Business Information Services at Grand Valley State University, we can access essential data for developing a new company and/or for an existing firm to gain a competitive edge. Requests need to be made through a MI-SBTDC Region 5 consultant.###
