The Bay City State Theatre Presents Summer Solstice Concert with Equinox on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 7:00 PM.

Equinox is composed of six multi-talented musicians. All from Michigan Tri-Cities this energetic band brings you Celtic music at it's best. At the Celtic core of the band are traditional pipes, fiddle, flute, whistles, and concertina. By adding guitars, mandolin, Middle Eastern and West African percussion, the band expands this ancient music to new dimensions.

Their repertoire ranges from sweet renditions of the familiar Danny Boy, The Irish Washerwoman, and the tunes of O'Carolan, to hard driving arrangements of Ye Jacobites and Whiskey in the Jar. Having played venues from pubs and weddings to theaters and festivals, Equinox creates a musical experience that has the proverbial "glass" full to the rim with energy!!!

Vern Pococke is a Saginaw native and one of the founders of the band. Pococke is the heartbeat of the band as he provides the pulsing energy of the djembe and other percussive sounds. Pococke also adds vocals, whistle, recorder, and harmonica harmonies.

Jean Marie Learman was Born and raised in Michigan's Thumb, Learman has been with Equinox since its inception. Learman brings the spirit of the storyteller to the band as she provides uplifting vocals along with flute, whistles, concertina and guitar melodies.

Bob Pennington brings the passion and soul to Equinox with the ancient sound of the pipes. Joining the band in 2001, Pennington plays the highland pipes, border pipes, and small pipes as well as the bass guitar, bodhran, and other percussion.

Leslie Gregory roamed throughout Michigan before settling in Saginaw, joining Equinox in 2002. Often called the 'furious, feisty fiddler', Gregory adds the fire to Equinox's arrangements with his fiddle and bow.

Kathy Morris is the newest member of the band, Morris is from Bay City and is a former member of the band, Hoolie. Morris delivers a vibrant energy with her rhythm guitar and bodhran paired with a lingering sweetness with her vocals and whistles.

Liz Sauer born and raised in Saginaw. Sauer is a senior in high school and adds much to the band's music with her unique dance style. A gifted dancer she is, but also adds percussion to the music with djembe and dumbek.

Tickets are $10.00 Adults and $5.00 Children
