State Representative Jeff Mayes (D-Bay City) today announced that he will host a Town Hall meeting about affordable food at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 21. Joining him will be State Representative Terry Brown (D-Pigeon), local farmers, Bay County Commissioner Brian Elder and other food policy experts.

"In these tough economic times, we're all looking for ways to feed our families for less money," Mayes said. "Shopping at Farmers Markets are a great way to get fresh, inexpensive food grown right here in our community. Consumers can feel good knowing that they are paying our farmers directly for their hard work, which in turn boosts our local economy."

At the Town Hall, the speakers will discuss the importance of Farmers Markets, supporting local farmers and eating healthy, locally grown food.

The town hall will be held in the first floor Community Room of the Wirt Public Library, 500 Center Ave. in Bay City, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008.
