With two dozen classic cars as a drawing card, the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club opened its doors, and spacious grounds, to hundreds of visitors on Saturday.

After gawking at the spiffy vehicles, ranging from a modified Model-T hot rod to a limousine-long 1948 Cadillac Fleetwood, the visitors gravitated to the front lawn for music, food and festivities.

Yacht Club flag officers and board members headed by Commodore Paul Martin worked the crowd like politicians, meeting and greeting.

Flag officers include Steve Dicken, vice commodore; David Cole, rear commodore; John Michutka, secretary; Theron Robinson, treasurer; and board members are Dr. Kurt Butzin, Sue Corrion, Ralph Kettling, Elizabeth Peters, Donald Weaver, Debra Filer, Scott Janke, Mike McAlindon, Ron Petre and Amy Wierda.

The event was blessed with fabulous weather and a great turnout and Ralp Kettling, membership chair, reported handing out more than 150 information packets to prospective new members.

The club presently has about 500 members including many from out-of-town including as far away as Grand Blanc, East Lansing, Gaylord and Rochester Hills.

Entertainment was provided by the Bay City Steelers steel drum band from Central High in the afternoon and the Funtown "oldies" group from Flint during the evening.

Events slated this season include a Jimmy Buffett Party Aug. 23, Family Fund Day Aug. 31, Labor Day Holiday Cookout Aug. 31-Sept. 1; Steak & Lobster Night Sept. 20; fall work party Oct. 18; Oktoberfest Beer Tasting & Meet the Nominees Oct. 24; and Tailgate Chili Cook-Off Oct. 25.

A Liberty Harbor Rendezvous will be held during the River of Time Sept. 26-28.
