Horse races were one of the many fun things to spot at the fair.

The annual Iosco County Fair was held at the fairgrounds in Hale last week, starting on Monday, July 21st and ending on Saturday, July 26. Admission to the fair was $3 a person or $7 for a car load of people.

The theme for this year's fair was 'barnyard beach party', a combination of farm and beach. This theme was very popular with the residents of Iosco County, considering the fact that many of them are farm owners. Some of the activities of the fair emphasized the farm part of the theme, for instance, exhibits included farm produce, home brewed spirits, hay bale decorating, a barnyard express show,a horse show, and the showing off of cattle, sheep, and poultry.

There were, of course, other things to do besides viewing exhibits or animal shows. One of the most popular things to do at the fair, especially for the younger crowd, were the rides and games. The Midway opened on July 21st, at 5 pm, and for that day only ride bracelets were $13. For the rest of the week ride bracelets were priced at $17. Of course the Mega Ride Pass was also available, for only $50, which allowed you to ride all of the rides you wanted, as many times as you wanted, all week.

Of course, rides and games may not be for everyone. There were other exciting events occurring at the Iosco County fair as well. There was a Team Extreme Show, which emphasized stunts done by motorcycle. Another fun exhibition to even just see, let alone participate in, were the lawn mower races. You could also get a psychic reading done. And in the entertainment tent there were many fascinating and new performances to enjoy. On Friday the Tawas Bay Shimmy Chicks, a group of belly dancers, danced and shimmied to a pleased audience. And on Saturday night, the fair came to a close with the country musical group Shenandoah, who performed some of their past hits like 'Two Dozen Roses' and 'Church On Cumberland Road', and their new song 'Journeys'.

Rides were one of the more popular items at the fair.
