The long awaited, highly anticipated Saginaw Bay RiverDawg RiverBrawl Tournament is finally upon us this weekend! Teams from throughout the United States as well as Ontario Canada will be in Bay City Saturday, August 16th and Sunday the 17th feigning for the Championship title!
"As a whole, Saginaw Bay RiverDawg baseball is very excited about the opportunity to bring this type of baseball to Bay City and hope to do it again next year. The 16 and under RiverDawg team is nationally rated and hold the sixth spot in the state on USSSA points, however, USSSA also measure baseball programs by Power Points. In Power Points, the Saginaw Bay RiverDawgs rate second in the state," says Tournament Director, Bruce Stapish.
The 12 and under team is competing in a 96 team tournament in Cooperstown, New York, home of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame! This is the most prestigious 12 and under tournament in the United States and is played on some of the nations finest fields. Players are given two sets of uniforms, baseball bags, pins, and various other baseball items provided by the tournament.
"Our feedback thus far from players and parents alike, is that it has been the greatest baseball experience of their life." said Mark Krzysiak, Coach and Vice President for Saginaw Bay RiverDawgs.
"The RiverDawgs are very excited as we continue to grow. The 2008 RiverBrawl Tournament will provide the local community and local businesses the opportunity to showcase one of Michigan's finest tourist communities. The RiverBrawl will also give local baseball fans a first hand opportunity to enjoy the exploding avenue of travel baseball." said Krzysiak.
This year the 16U team placed as finalists in Lansing Tournament, but lost in the Championship game to Lansing High Heat which gave them a World Series Birth with Triple Crown Baseball.
The 16U did however, take home the Championship Title in the Inaugural Traverse City Cherry Festival Tournament!
"It's Been an exciting year, were looking forward to next year," says Stapish.
