Victory! The Cougars have started their new season with a decisive home win Thursday night. Right from the get go the Cougars held nothing back in their clash with the Valley Lutheran Chargers. After the coin toss decided the Cougars would start out on offense it didn't take the Cougars long to get the ball down to the other end. After the successful run by #1 Josh Sutton(in at QB), resulted in a first down, next up at QB was #85 B.J. Weaver who connected with #22 Drew Bauer on an impressive 45 yard pass which turned into the Cougars first touchdown.

After the Cougars tacked on the extra point the ball was turned over to the Chargers. Proving their name to be accurate all too well, the Chargers charged down the field to within scoring distance; and that's where the Cougars became a wall. A penalty had just made what looked like a Charger touchdown into a ST and Goal nightmare for the Cougars. As both team's fans and Coaches looked on in awe the Cougars continued to shut out the Chargers offense, which was literally inches away from tying the game.

Not once, not twice, but four times did the determined Cougars hold their ground against their fierce opponents until the Chargers were forced to turn over the ball on downs. With little time left in the first half the Cougars held onto the ball while the clock ticked away on the second quarter. The Cougars headed to their locker-room leaving the game seven to nothing with the Cougars on top.

The ASC Pom squad is keyed up for Half-time; For a squad with many new faces, their first routine is a rousing and memorable one that paved the way for the explosive second half.

As the fans were getting back to their seats to witness the third quarter, the Cougars came back out ready to finish the game.

Because the Cougars had started the game with the ball, Valley Lutheran would now get their chance with the ball. After two minutes of solid offense the Chargers scored their own touchdown, along with an extra point to tie the game early in the second half. But the Cougars answered right back with #24 Aaron Janer punching in another Cougar touchdown; and to add some more zest to their score, the Cougars connected on a two-point-conversion to make the score 15-7 with 7 minutes to go in the third.

For seven minutes both teams struggled around midfield, but neither team managed to make any headway. Thus the fourth and final quarter began, and the race was on. As Coach Jeff Bisel yelled "don't let up" to his team, the Cougars hit the field with their eyes set on racking up some more points. After several attempts at achieving some yardage #32 Brett Campbell pierced the Chargers defense and ran and impressive run that ended a yard away from the goal line.

A minute later Sutton punched through the Chargers line to score another Cougar touchdown along with the extra point which put the Cougar clearly on top with an impressive score of 22-7. But if you think the Cougars were done there then you've got another thing coming.

Although the Chargers were able to connect on one more touchdown it wouldn't matter much in the long run. The Cougars were able to slam in two more touchdowns with their extra points to make score 36-14 at the end of the game. Coach Bisel attributes the Cougars win to "blockage". Bisel says that "this game was about blockage and after halftime we knew who to block, and we blocked 'em". Enough said.

Totaling 281 yard to Valley's 191, the Cougars clearly have turned up the heat this year. All Saints will hit the road next Friday and travel to USA to face the Patriots. The Cougars season began on a high note and as senior B.J. Weaver said "We couldn't have started this season off any better than this".
