"We came out, and we played hard". In that one statement from Quarterback Josh Sutton summed up the Cougar's offensive prowess in a nutshell. For the Cougars, the night was all about offense, and that was evident from the very first play. Had it not been for a flag, the Cougars would have scored a touchdown on the opening kickoff return. Unfortunately for the Cougars, that flag would result in them starting their offensive drive back on their own 20 yard line.

There is a common joke among Cougar fans that it takes a few minutes before the Cougars really turn up the heat. That belief was totally obliterated when the Cougars blasted their way down the field with stellar runs and amazing pass completions to quickly come within striking distance of the end-zone. The Cougar fans knew they were in for a great game when #11 Kevin Bisel effortlessly broke through the paralyzed Hatchet defensive line and scored the first of many Cougar touchdowns.

After #32 Brett Campbell tacked on the extra point it was time for the Cougars to switch into defensive mode. Unyielding, the steeled Cougar defensive line blatantly refused to let the Hatchets pass mid-field. Stopped dead in their tracks by the Cougar's rock-solid defense, the Hatchets were forced to punt the ball away.

With the ball back in Cougar hands, it would only be a matter of minutes until the football once again crossed the goal line, this time in the hands of #24 Aaron Janer. Once another point was added on by Campbell, the Cougars led 14-0 with just under three minuets remaining on the clock. Refusing to let the Cougars push them around any longer, the Hatchets managed to connect on a few plays and, as time expired on the first quarter, found themselves only 20 yards from the goal line.

A great Cougar defense held the Hatchets to only 2 touch downs (Jusitn Gielda #13, Brad 'Freight Train' Sinicki #71, and Bryce Wilcox #54).

The second quarter began on a bitter note for the Cougars. The Hatchets were able to achieve their touchdown but fell short on their extra point attempt. With the score now at 14-6, the Cougars knew it was time to rack up another six points; however the Hatchets were ready this time. The Hatchet defense proved too much for the Cougars and they fell short on their drive, but not before Campbell connected on a 32 yard field goal.

With eight minutes on the clock, the score was now 17-6 Cougars. Back on defense, the Cougar defenders once again held their ground against the desperate Hatchets. With the Cougars defense firmly holding ground in front of them, the Hatchets were forced to put the ball back in the hands of the Cougars - in particular the hands of #43 Mario Walker.

It would be Walker who would blast through the Hatchets defenders and move the ball thirty plus yards forward to the edge of the goal line. On the next play it would be Bisel, once again, who punched in another Cougar touchdown. After another fabulous extra point kick from Campbell, the score would stand at 24-6, but not for long. The Hatches hardly had the ball when they fumbled and it was recovered by the Cougars.

With the Cougar fans cheering them on #1 Sutton passed the ball down the field to #85 BJ Weaver who would not only catch it, but would carry it across the goal line. With the score at an impressive 31-6 the first half came to a close.

After a rousing Pom routine by the lovely Cougar Pom team, it was back to business for the Cougars; and in a business where your job is to score touchdowns, the Cougars didn't disappoint. Racking up two more touchdowns and their respective extra points; the Cougars were up 44-6 at the end of the third quarter. With the Cougars firmly in command of the scoreboard, it was a bit of a shock when the Hatchets managed to tack on another touchdown and successful two-point-conversion. With the score at 44-12 the Cougar defense stepped up their game and held the Hatchets back until time expired and the Cougars gained their third win of the season.

With a total of 405 yards gained, its obvious the Cougar's offense was nothing less then perfect for this game. Indeed this game was a fabulous display of what the Cougars are capable of doing on both offense, and defense. The Cougars will hit the road next week and head to Lakers next Friday; after that, is Homecoming October 3rd.

ASC celebrates their 3rd victory of the season.
