Championships are won with great line play. Backs run wild through holes and quarterbacks can't beat you if they are constantly under pressure. This is a lesson the young Bobcats learned quickly against Bridgeport. "We had a great week of practice," beamed Coach Dobbins. "The offensive line was unbelievable today. Very proud of them."

And proud he should be as all night, the Bangor backs ran through big holes and gained big yards after the hit.

"We played good football on both sides of the ball," noted Coach Dobbins. At the half, the defense made some adjustments. They came out and tackled hard. We played John Glenn football." And tough hitting it was.

Bridgeport started the game with a spread offense. This offensive alignment puts the quarterback in the backfield allowing him to pass and disguise hand-offs to create a good running game. For their first possession, it seemed to work as the Bearcats moved the ball methodically down field from their own 26 yard line to the Bobcat 25. Then pressure on the QB was applied by the defensive ends and the Bearcats couldn't move the ball any further as they turned it over on downs at the Bobcat 26.

Bangor quickly started up field with power running but on the second play from scrimmage, a fumble was recovered by Bridgeport on the Bangor 40. But the Bobcat defensive line was up to the task and took over. Pressure from both ends resulted in a sacks and no gain from the running game. A punt into the end zone gave Bangor the ball on their own 20.

Now it was time for the offensive line to dominate.

Huge holes and even bigger determination moved the ball. #32 Quentin Thomas took the first play up the middle and dragged Bearcats for a 15 yard game. Then #21 Anthony Merchant gains big yardage. In the end, Merchant takes it off right tackle driving up the middle and reaching into the end zone for a score. Extra point pass falls incomplete and the Bobcats take a 6-0 lead into half time.

The second half started off with a bang. Started from their 27, QB Clyde passes to #57 Matt Neilson for a 22 yard game. Then Quentin Thomas runs it 15 yards. A swing pass to #22 Alex Delgado who takes it 21 more yards and the Bobcats are knocking on the door. Thomas then takes it the rest of the way for a quick touchdown. Delgado then takes it in for the two point conversion and the Bobcats are up 14-0.
They had plenty to cheer about for their Bobcats.

Bearcats look to get back into the game.
After taking 4 downs to get a first, QB #10 threw a 36 yard pass to put the Bearcats on Bangor's 27. But the Glenn defensive line was up to the task. The Bobcat defense shut down the Bearcats and Bangor took over on downs at their 31.

Quickly the Bobcats ran the ball into Bridgeport territory. Then #7 Derek Clyde hit #18 Jared McCure on the 15 yard line and McCure "took it to the house" for a 37 yard scoring pass. Thomas punched it in for the extra 2 and Bangor moved ahead 22-0.

Bridgeport looked to make things happen by going back to the air. But on first down, Bridgeport was intercepted by #61 Ethan Blaisure at the Bearcat 40 yard line and the Bobcats were back on offense and looking for more.

Back to back penalties put Glenn in a hole but on fourth down, #12 Gatlin Hoffman made a spectacular catch on a high pass in between defenders and Bangor was back in business again. The Delgado took a hand-off around right end for 20 yards to the Bridgeport three yard line where #55 Noah Peterson ran it in for a touchdown. #34 Justin Mlujeak tallied the final 2 points for Bangor putting them up 30-0.

With less than two minutes on the clock, the Bearcats kept working. The Bridgeport QB took the ball around right end and ran untouched 64 yards for the lone highlight of the night. Then a swing pass to #5 added the conversion two-pointer and made the final score 30-8.

The Bobcats next travel to Caro next Tuesday for their first away game of the year.
