Some idiot Stanford Tackle named Marinelli (Offensive Tackle) made the fighting Irish mad as hell with some pre-game drivel about hating Notre Dame. Read Here. (Silly Boy) Notre Dame 28 - Stanford 21. (It really wasn't that close)

Is it just me or does Jimmy Clausen get better every week? AGAINST STANFORD: Clausen (ND) 29-40, 347 yards, 3 TD

Notre Dame Coach Charlie Weiss is letting his assistant coaches steer the ship during the game -- 430 Yards Total Offense, 347 Yards Passing by Clausen.

Notre Dame is 4-1 (Power Rank #55) and headed into the 2nd half of the season with 7 games left against a formidable list of opponents that includes . . .

Current Records
Future Opponents:

  • North Carolina (3-1) (Power Rank #23)
  • Washington (0-4) (Power Rank #97)
  • Pittsburgh (4-1) (Power Rank #27)
  • Boston College (4-1) (Power Rank #41)
  • Navy (3-2) (Power Rank #67)
  • Syracuse (1-4) (Power Rank #106)
  • Southern Cal (3-1) (Power Rank #9)

Next week . . . on the road against a very tough North Carolina team. The season will be on the line against North Carolina. A win against the Tarheels just might propel the Irish into the top 25.

If that happens, the Irish, with Clausen coming of age, just might run the table to set up a "classic" ND-USC battle for a BCS title game. (Don't make that face . . . I've seen this before.)

In the meantime, you can visit my column anytime to play the most famous college football fight song of the last 100 years.

    That'll make my phone ring . . . LOL . . .

The Michigan Fight Song will always be number one in this town. And the Irish of 2008 will be lucky to be 6-6 at the end of the year. BCS? What a laugh!

Now for a cheer they are here, triumphant!
Here they come with banners flying,
    In stalwart step they're nighing,
    With shouts of vict'ry crying,
We hurrah, hurrah, we greet you now, Hail!

    Far we their praises sing
For the glory and fame they've brought us
Loud let the bells them ring
For here they come with banners flying
    Far we their praises tell
For the glory and fame they've brought us
Loud let the bells them ring
For here they come with banners flying
    Here they come, Hurrah!

    Hail! to the victors valiant
    Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
    Hail! Hail! to Michigan
    The leaders and best!
    Hail! to the victors valiant
    Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
    Hail! Hail! to Michigan,
    The champions of the West!

    We cheer them again
    We cheer and cheer again
For Michigan, we cheer for Michigan
We cheer with might and main
    We cheer, cheer, cheer
With might and main we cheer!

    Hail! to the victors valiant
    Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
    Hail! Hail! to Michigan,
    The champions of the West!

Well now, the Notre Dame and Michigan fight songs are O.K., but the old Bay City St. Mary's fight song puts them to shame. Out of the limited abilities of my fading memory banks, I will try to bring it into the here and now. Stand back! This is very dynamic. Set your coffee cup down, Lads and Lasses, for here it comes at you!
"We, the students of St. Mary's High, marching the Marian way, hold high our colors of white and blue--symbols of our loyalty, St. Mary's, to you. Bearing aloft the torch of truth. With purities emblem guiding our youth, something, something, something, etc. for a brighter tomorrow through Mary. Live St. Mary's! Live for God and Country! Give St. Mary's! Give a service true! Fight! Fight! Fight!" There's more, but the tired old gray cells can't remember.
Well, O.J., this may be the fight song which propelled us to a 53 to zero loss to St. James in 1960. Of course, you guys had secret plays, Vince Zappone coaching, Jeff Bisel, Robin Trombley, Roger Zacharko, O.J. Cunningham and other "Devils on Wheels" and, I'm fairly certain, a much better fight song. Anyhow, you crushed us like a bag of grapes. I'm convinced that you guys knew our plays better than we did. We had used that same tired old, single wing system for four straight years (great when we had Dick Corcoran and Paul Clemnts and Paul Sheridan in '59, but when they left in 1960 and we were in the re-building mode, it didn't work so well. Wow, if it wasn't for our fight song, we would all have given in to despair. Anyhow, thanks for the trip down memory lane. I hope the St. Mary's Fight song inspires all to have a good day during these wildly trying times.
    Agree? or Disagree?
