Bangor Junior Bobcats Up Record To 2-1

With a big game looming next week against cross town rival Garber, a coach might worry that his team could be looking ahead. And when Caro struck for a touchdown in the first minute of plan, more than one fan might have been worried about that too. Not this Bangor team. They had business to take care of and take care of it they did.
Following Caro's touchdown, the Bobcats went right to work by pounding the football down the field behind the hard running of #21 Anthony Merchant. Three minutes later, Merchant punched it in with #22 Alex Delgado adding the extra two and Bangor was tied 8-8.
Bangor's defense made quick work of the Caro offense and following a Tiger punt, the Junior Bobcats went right back to work. Starting from midfield, Merchant ripped off a 25 yard run. Then Derek Clyde hit Delgado with a 16 yard scoring strike to put Bangor ahead 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.

On Caro's next possession, they tried a reverse but were sacked for a loss and again, forced to punt. Bangor again had good field position at their own 41. Soon, Merchant had another long run putting the ball on the Caro 23. Clyde then hooked up with Delgado again putting the ball on the 14. Then Clyde hit #57 Matt Nielson for another Bobcat touchdown. With #32 Quentin Thomas' extra point, the Bobcats had it in cruise-control and stretched their lead to 22-8.
Late in the second quarter, Caro started showing signs of life as they moved the ball to Bangor's 8 yard line thanks to passes #84 Daniel Rieck. But time ran out and Bangor entered the half up 22-8.

In the second half, Bangor showed that they were focused on this game at the start of the third quarter. The Bobcats took five minutes to march the ball down field. Merchant struck pay dirt from 11 yards out for another Bangor score. Thomas added the two point conversion and Bangor was on top 30-8.
The Bobcat defense was not about to let Caro get their passing offense going and after heavy pressure, forced Caro to punt.
Bangor started another drive at the end of the third quarter determined to not let up. Clyde hit Nielson on another long pass putting the Bobcats on the Tiger 7 yard line. Then Clyde hit #18 Jared McCure for a 7 yard touchdown and with #34 Justin Mlujeak's two point conversion, it was now 38-8.
No more did everyone settle back in their seats when Caro struck back. After a nice kick return that put the ball on Bangor's 47, #45 Brendon Timko took it all the way to the house for a touchdown. #33 Trevor Jester added the two point conversion making it 38-16.
To no one's surprise, Caro attempted an onside kick that was quickly gobbled up by #55 Noah Peterson. Bangor kept the peddle to the metal as they moved the ball down field with Merchant scoring from 4 yards out making it 44-16.
Even with less than two minutes to play, a game Caro team was still determined to get one more score. They marched the ball down field to the Bangor 4 yard line before time ran out.
"We had a good week of practice," exclaimed a pleased Coach Dobbins. "We have good momentum now. We are 2-1".
But Coach Dobbins was already thinking of next week. "Big test is next week when we go against Garber, our cross town rival," he said.
Given the way he has his Bobcats playing, they look ready for their Big Game next week. "We have good support. And when you have good support, good things happen," Dobbins said. And Bangor is looking for good things to happen next week as they take on the Garber team on Tuesday at 7pm at Garber in Essexville.
