When Garber and Frankenmuth football teams get together, you can usually throw out the records. You just know this is going to be a tough battle. Apparently this young Duke squad didn't get that memo as they took it to the Eagles hard and often.

Garber got things going immediately. Starting their first possession on their own 30, they began moving the ball behind the hard running Andrew Aho. Then lightning struck as quarterback Jake Hebert hit Todd Walraven for a 40 yard touchdown strike and with the extra point, the Dukes were rolling 7-0.

Frankenmuth then mounted a drive of their own driving the ball to the Duke 13. From their, the Duke defense stiffened and the Eagles settled for a 30 yard field goal by Nathan Krafft narrowing the margin 7-3.

After returning the kickoff to their own 30, Garber went to their patent ground game. Three straight Aho rushes moved the ball 35 yards to the Eagle 35. Then Aho busted it loose from there taking it 35 yards to the house and putting Garber ahead 13-3.

With Frankenmuth, you never count them out. They mounted a drive bring the ball into Garber territory before being forced to punt. With the Duke offense providing lightning, then the defense has to provide thunder. Up steps co-captain and the teams leading tackler, Shane O'Mara. He blocked the Frankenmuth punt near midfield giving the Dukes excellent field position. Three plays later, Hebert unleashed his second touchdown strike to Todd Walraven (his second of the night) from 22 yards out for another touchdown. Aho's two point conversion run now had Garber on top 21-3.

The Eagles were determined to make this a shootout. They moved the ball back down the field to Garber's 20. There, Matt Cramer hit Nathan Krafft for a touchdown and with Krafft's extra point, The Eagles were back in it at 21-10.

Garber was determined to have the final say of the first half. Again starting from their own 30 yard line, they put together one of their methodical drives. Using their strong running game, Garber chewed up yardage and clock by driving 70 yards in 14 plays with Andrew Aho punching it in from 1 yard. With the Mike Schroeder kick, the Dukes took a 28-10 lead into half time.

Frankenmuth was determined to get back into the game. Taking their first possession of the second half, they started moving the ball before Garber's Travis Britko intercepted the ball on the Garber 29 and ran it back 28 yards to the Eagle's 43. It took just 3 plays for Garber to score. Andrew Aho busted a 32 yard touchdown run making it 34-10 After a failed extra point.

Ever vigilant, Frankenmuth came right back at the Dukes driving the ball back down the field. A fumble was recovered on the Duke 15 yard line and Garber went right back at it again. They drove the ball right back down the field for an eleven play scoring drive. The drive was highlighted by a nice pass play. Hebert rolled to his left and hit short receiver, Todd Walraven just inside the 15. Walraven then turned and plowed his way to the one where Andrew Aho to the next play and ran it in. Another missed extra point made it 40-10.

Garber wasn't done yet. After stopping and forcing Frankenmuth to punt, Garber's second string went at it. Taking the ball on their own 43, Garber moved the ball down to the Eagle 39. From there, Dominic Trogan wasted little time taking advantage of his playing time by peeling off a 39 yard run down the right sidelines and Garber had tacked on 6 more points, 46-10.

To Frankenmuth's credit, they just kept coming. They moved the ball right back down the field where Benjamin List ran it in from 13 yards out and with Krafft's kick, finished out the scoring 46-17. Garber almost scored again as Trogan busted another run only to be caught by the safety.

For the night, Garber racked up 528 yards in total offense. Andrew Aho lead all rushers with 248 yards on 33 attempts with Dominic Trogan adding 103 yards on 9 carries. Hebert was on target all night throwing 7 for 9 for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns. Todd Walraven had 84 of those yards with 3 catches and 2 touchdowns.

Shane O'Mara lead the Duke defense with 7 tackles and a blocked punt while Travis Britko had 6 tackles and an interception.

Next week Garber plays Bridgeport at Bridgeport. Garber needs the win to earn a share of the TVC conference.
