Don't All Golf Courses Have Windmills?
CHEER WITH ME: Kitna, Kitna . . . He's our man . . . If he can't do it . . . then nobody can.
First things first . . .
You probably already heard that Bay County is going to try to put a windmill on their County Golf Course. (I Laughed out loud) I thought all golf courses had windmills. All the courses that I play have windmills. I'll need to do more research.
Oh yeah . . . and they're investing $275 in an anemometer to see if the wind is really blowing out on the course.
My friend Dan Schmidt would say . . . "Wet your finger. Hold it up. If it gets cold . . . the wind is blowing."
(EDITOR's NOTE) Detroit Lions Update: Over seven seasons under Matt Millen's leadership as team CEO, the Detroit Lions owned the NFL's worst winning percentage (31-81, .277), have never had a winning season, have never finished higher than third place in the NFC North, and have not played in any post-season games.
Despite this record of total failure, Millen received a five-year contract extension at the start of the 2005 season and then was finally fired in 2008.
A recent Bay City Times' headline stated the obvious:
"Lions must take serious look at 2009 Quarterback situation."
DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Talk about understating the obvious.
It seems as if the Lions have needed to take a look at the quarterback situation every year since Bobby Layne (1950s) was taking snaps under center in Detroit.
I cringed when the Lions passed on Southern Cal's Matt Leinart. (Right)
CHEER WITH ME: Joey, Joey . . . He's our man . . . If he can't do it . . . then nobody can.
I puked up when they passed on Notre Dame's Brady Quinn. (Right)
ONCE AGAIN: Kitna, Kitna . . . He's our man . . . If he can't do it . . . then nobody can.
While the Lions were drafting wide receivers like Charles Rogers Mike Williams and most recently Calvin Johnson, other teams were drafting quarterbacks who might actually be able to throw the ball to wide receivers.
The finger of blame points easily at Lion's CEO Matt Millen. But I'm more comfortable just painting the Ford family as the culprit.
I'm remembering names like Gus Frerotte, Joey Harrington. The list seems to go on-and-on. Today's quarterback crew include my never-favorite John Kitna, and the uninspiring duo of Stan Orlovsky and Drew Stanton. Good Grief.
How I long (no pun intended) for the good old days of Andre Ware and Chuck Long.
But then . . . Maybe it's not the QB's but the Head Coaching that might just be a major factor.
Bobby Ross was the last Lion Head Coach (1999-2000) to get us to the playoffs (Redskins 27 - Lions 13). When Ross resigned in mid-year 2000, we got Gary Moeller. Then it was Marty Mornhinweg. Following a 2-14 season in 2001 and a 3-13 mark in 2002, Mornhinweg was fired.
In 2003, we got Steve Mariucci . . . Dick Jauron for a bit in 2005 and now it's the un-inspiring (for me) Rod Marinelli.
In 2008, under Marinelli, The Lions have yet to score a point in the first quarter, and have fallen behind by 21 points in each of their first 5 games.
These are the same guys that went 4-0 in pre-season. Imagine that!
Whatever the cause . . . be it QB's, receivers, coaches or the Ford family . . . I'm bailing . . .
Go Colts . . . er, Jets . . . er, Pats . . . er, ah, Giants . . . er . . . Oh Crappppppppppp . . .
I'll give them one more chance . . .
I CAN HEAR IT NOW . . . "In the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft . . . the Detroit Lions take . . . Texas Quarterback Colt McCoy . . .
It could happen . . . Couldn't It? Or . . Missouri's Chase Daniel? Or some QB . . . Or ANY QB . . . Save MEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeee . . .
Happy Birthday to Catherine Deneuve -- Age 65 on October 22, 2008.
