Welcome To The Jungle!
Greatest Hard Rock Song?

VH1 Says It Is ... but before I comment on that .... let me set the scene ...

It's Friday night, I arrive home just before 8:00 PM, having the rest of the night off..........( Ahhhhh . . . I have the night off ). . .

As I contemplated . . . what to do next . . . . Bret Michael's (of Poison) voice catches my attention as I glance over at the TV.

It's VH1's feature of '100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs' hosted by Bret Michaels . . . well . . . . I might have to set down for this one. Actually at the time, they were counting down and already on number 64.

How long could this take?? As I already have my bets in for my personal number one.

Well, an hour goes by . . . we're down to 40. I'm getting into some good 80's rock as I'm watching it on High Def - flat-screen, it was like Re-Living the 80's concerts of my "youth."

Almost everyone (that knows me well) knows, my favorite band of all-time is Aerosmith, but by now I'm over analyzing my choice for number one, as I'm watching the VH1 show... (remembering that the best song is chosen from an on-line poll on VH1.) I'm seeing a few bands like Boston, Green Day, the Clash. I annoyingly sit through these songs... wondering why these songs are considered 'Hard Rock.' It did say Hard Rock or Just Greatest Rock Song. I Double Check... no it said 'Hard' Rock....

WELL.... okay... When I think of Hard rock, I think Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, etc. So now I start hedging my bet, well if it's truly Hard Rock... then I would choose something from off the Metallic, Kill 'em All, or Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning or Iron Maiden.

There and that's my final answers!

So now, I'm getting a little restless as I don't have much patience for spending time in front of the television. But hey, now its 10:00 and I think we are down to 20. As I'm reminded this is going to take another hour. OMG..... Well now I've been sitting here for 2 hours . . . I can do this . . (thinking to myself) . . Only one hour to Go!

Rocking to Videos of Ted Nugent, Poison, Motley Crue, Warrant, Kid Rock, Ratt ... WOW . . . I realize.... I've seen all these band right here in Bay City -- at the Westown! Ha!

Anyway.... the results . . Aerosmith - 'Walk This Way' was in the top ten... Metallica top ten... but the song... 'Enter Sandman', Are you kidding me? . . . this song is lame compared to earlier songs.

Okay . . . (According to VH1) Number One Greatest Hard Rock Song = Guns & Roses, Welcome to the jungle.... (I suppose it could have been worse.)

But let's see for ourselves.... Below - VH1 On-line Poll Choice:

Welcome to The Jungle

And now I'm Forced to put my own top 'Hard' Rock songs . . .

Must Turn Up Volume - For Full Effect!!!!!!!!!!

Metallica - Whiplash

Iron Maiden - Number of The Beast

Iron Maiden - Trooper

Iron Maiden - Aces High

Metallica - Ride The Lightning

Metallica - Master of Puppets

Motley Crue - Kick Start My Heart

Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil

Scorpions - Rock U Like A Hurricane

(Ted Nugent . . . "Wang Dang Sweet . . . " was my next choice, (but I couldn't find a PG version . . . smile) you're on your own.

Can't Leave out Aerosmith . . . Did you really think I was going to?

Aerosmith - Back In The Saddle

I really was trying to keep my list under 5 . . . (tough . . . I'll stop now)

And Now . . . I would like to run my own MyBayCity Poll...

Scroll Below enter under 'Leave a Comment' of your choice for top hard rock song and maybe a you-tube link . . .

Why...it would have to be The Number of The Beast of course! Early summer mornings, heading to the coffee shop and then the golf course...car smelling of roadkill.... Yeah, those were the days sista!

Your greatest rock song list was great, and it brought back some good younger years. My list would add a few like:

1)Blck Sabbath Paranoid
2)Ozzy, Crazy Train and Iron Man
3)Rainbow, Man on the Silver Mountain and Rainbow in the Dark
4)Montrose, Bad Motor Scooter and of course
5)Van Halen, Eruption.

Everyone will have their own favorites, and I hope to see a list of other peoples too. Keep up the good work. Dick
