Despite having lost six consecutive games, the Cougars were determined to hit the Bad Axe Hatchets with everything they had. The first period went well for them. Strong defense and excellent rebounding kept Hatchet scoring to a minimum, and at the same time good teamwork on offense allowed the Cougars to rack up a 10-3 lead at the end of the first period. Little did they know how important that early lead would be.

Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Hatchets lit up the scoreboard in the second period. Bad Axe's offense swarmed over the net and capitalized on the Cougars struggling defense. Thankfully some well placed shots and key defensive plays, kept the Cougars within striking distance. With the score 21-18, the Cougars had at lot of work that needed to be done in the second half.

The story of the third period can be summarized in one word: offense. With their determination higher than ever, the Cougars' offense managed to double their score and then some. Sadly the Cougar' defense was still struggling to hold back the Hatchets. The Hatchets added twenty points to their score and maintain their narrow lead at 41-38.

The best period without a doubt was the fourth. The Cougars played their hardest and managed to tie the score twice and then take the lead with only seconds left on the clock. With the score at 54-51, the Cougars, and their fans, thought the game was finally within their grasp. With only 15 seconds left in the game, the Hatchets managed to score one point on a foul, and then with only seconds remaining they stole the ball and sunk a lay-up for two points to tie the game. With the score at 54-54, we were headed to overtime.

With the game still up for grabs, the Cougars determination, and intensity gave them the edge over Bad Axe. The Cougars played better than they had all game. After sinking many key free throws the girls put the game out of reach of the Hatchets and won their first game 63-58.

All Saints Girls Varsity Coach Duane Gorlewski said his team "never gave up; we just dug-in and played hard". The Lady Cougars' record now stands at 1-6, yet with the memory of this epic victory in the back of their minds, All Saints fans doubt it will be their last win.
