The U.S.A. Patriots were are a good team. The All Saints Cougars knew that. ASC knew better than anyone that if they wanted to leave their home gym with a win, they'd have to play with more intensity than ever before. After seeing All Saints' varsity girls team sourly beaten by U.S.A.'s girls, the Cougars were more determined than ever to hold nothing back.

The Patriots drew first blood from the free-throw line, but it wasn't long before the Cougars evened the odds with a two-pointer. Strong defense from both teams kept either sides offense muddled.

The Cougars offense played smart and managed to answer every point U.S.A. put on the board. The first period drew to a close with an 11-11 tie that stands as proof of the defensive battle occurring on the court.

The first few minutes of the second period were devoid of any scoring. Finally, with a little over 5 minutes left in the period, the Patriots broke the stalemate and established a small but considerable 6 point lead over the Cougars. Rather than give up, the Cougars fought back on both offense and defense, and managed to cut the Patriots lead to a 19-16 game before the second period expired.

After a brilliant routine; done to the tune of "Luckie Street" by Cartel, from the recently reformed pom-pon squad, it was back to business for the Cougars.

Key free-throws and smart offensive play allowed the Cougars to finally cut the Patriots lead to 1 point, and then take the lead! At the end of the third period the Cougars held a narrow lead with the score at 30-29.

It seemed as though the fourth period was a fight to the bitter end; lucky for the Cougars they had #34 DeMario Walker and #14 Cameron Coburn. Walker led the Cougars with 18 points (6 of them coming in the crucial 4th period), while Coburn ended his night with 10 points.

Cue the easy button; Justin Villano effortlessly adds 2pts.

The fourth period of this game was no place for the faint hearted. There was blood, there was sweat, and by the time it was over the Cougars left the court knowing they had played their best game yet.

Impenetrable defense and outstanding offensive plays gave the Cougars the edge they needed to maintain their lead over the desperate Patriots. With the ecstatic Cougar fans cheering, Mario Walker tacked on the two free-throws that put the game out of reach of the Patriots.

After this victory the Cougars record is back in the positives at 4-3. Birthday boy BJ Weaver (who ended the night with 3 points) commented that "We were finally able to finish a game" and also said that "This was all I wanted for my birthday." The Cougars will take on Cass City away and then defend their home court against their old nemesis Lakers in the coming week.
