So often in basketball, no matter how well you play, it is the fouls and play from the free throw line that dictates the outcome. Never could those words be truer than for Central Thursday night.

Central came out with such fire and determination. So complete was the domination that by the end of the first quarter, they had an 18-4 lead.

The second quarter started much the same as the Wolves knocked down the first basket pushing their lead to 20-4. Then a foul here and there seemed to take Central out of their rhythm and Dow got things moving. More importantly for Dow, their dynamic duo of guard Spencer Jennings and forward Brad Ostergren got their of inside-outside game going and Dow started picking up momentum.

With Jennings and Ostergren combining for 16 first half points, they were able to keep Dow in the game as Midland chipped some of the lead away going into halftime down 30-21.

Midland looked to attack in the second half mixing in a full court press and applying heavy defensive pressure. But Central had no thoughts of folding their tents. Led by Deon Martin's 23 points and aided by Joe Brown's 17 boards, the Wolves tried mightily to hold off the hard charging Chargers. But it is hard to hold back a Dow train lead by a combined 34 points in the second half by Jennings and Ostergren. At the end of the third quarter, Dow had dwindled a once 16 point deficit down to 4 points, 47-43.

Central was not about to quit. Like two prize fighters standing toe to toe, the two teams went at it. But as they battled, Dow was able to slip an extra two in here or there until it was tied 60-60 with 1:11 left to play.

But oh, how those free throws can come back to haunt you. For the night, Dow enjoyed an advantage by making 20 free throws to Central's 3. None was ever as important as Dow's Paul Martin's free throw that put the Chargers ahead for the first time 61-60 with 71 seconds to play. Then in a flash, Jennings intercepted a pass and took it the length of the court for a basket and was fouled. As important as all the made free throws were, it was Jennings miss on his free throw shot that sealed the victory for Dow. As the ball bounced off the rim, Ostergren tipped it back in creating a four point play and a five point swing in 21 seconds with Dow now on top 65-60 with 50 seconds to play.

The Wolves tried to comeback but their efforts fell just short with Dow stealing this victory 67-63.

Dow's Spencer Jennings lead all scorers with 30 to combine with teammate Brad Ostergren's 20 points and Jordan Herman added 12 points. Deon Martin scored 23 for Central.
