After Downing both the Cass City Red Hawks and Lakers last week, the All Saints Cougars hit the Marlette Red Raiders with everything they had to emerge with their 7th win of the season.

Right from the tip-off the Cougars controlled the game. The Cougars quickly built a strong lead mostly off of 3-pointers from Adam Pijaszek #20 (Pijaszek ended his night with 14 points, 12 of which were from 3-pointers). Awesome Cougar offense and their intense defense was a spectacle to behold, but the Raiders refused to give up.

The Raiders stayed in the game, but faced a 23-12 Cougar lead at the end of the first. The Cougars managed to maintain their lead throughout the second and third periods despite a few Raider 3-pointers that kept them within striking distance.

Solid defense was key in the fourth and the Cougars kept it up right to the last second of the fourth period when the Cougars claimed their 56-43 victory.

Aaron Janer, #3 led the Cougars in scoring with 16 points with Pijaszek coming second with 14, while Mario Walker #34 added 13 to the Cougars total. Master of the 3-point shot, Pijaszek's four 3-pointers played a key role in the Cougars early lead. When asked about his teams play recently Pijaszek said the Cougars were "working hard at practice" and "we know what we need to do as a team".

The next to fall were the Vulcan's of Vassar. Though the Cougars claimed their eighth win of the season by a large margin, this game began as a defensive standoff. Precise defense from the Vulcan's kept the Cougars restricted to the outside of the court; and on the opposite end of the court the Vulcan shooters were capitalizing on a shooting lane straight down the center. Luckily, the Cougars' powerhouse offense managed to tack on just enough points to stay on Vassar's tail 11-10 at the end of the first.

Led by Mario Walker #34 (who led the Cougars in scoring with 11 points), the Cougars managed to snatch away the lead and keep the Vulcan's score at 18 points to their 23. The Cougars had a narrow lead, but were primed to unleash all their fury in the second half.

What can only be described as an outpouring of Cougar determination can justify the third period. The Cougars nearly impenetrable defense kept the Vulcan's muddled offense from only scoring 4 points. On the other end of the gym, the Cougar's offense was using Vassar's inadequate defense for target practice. The Cougars quickly racked up an impressive 35-22 lead that would almost surely carry them to a victory.

Well the game wasn't exactly over yet; Vassar had no plans to hand the Cougars a victory. The Vulcans attacked the Cougars with newfound strength, and with a few desperate 3-pointers, managed to increase their score to 31. But it was too little, too late. The Cougars had extended their score total to 46, which was enough to keep their undefeated status in the conference.

The 8-3 All Saints Cougars will hit the road to take on Reese on Wednesday before finally returning home next Friday to face off against the Bad Axe Hatchets.
