The Second Half of the Saginaw Valley Bay City Battle featured the girls' game. And just like the previous game, this one started in classy fashion. Bay City Central student, Kevin Kosinski, sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem that would have made even Simon smile.

The first quarter was a scrappy battle. Both teams fought and clawed their every possession ending the period in a 10-10 tie.

Central started the second quarter pressing. Western matched the press resulting in tight turnover basketball. Mallory Sebald got Western going when she hit a three point shot then followed that by hitting both free throws after being fouled.

Central started to loose their cool by quickly racking up fouls after losing possession of the ball on the dribble. This forced them into their bench and kept the Wolves from getting into a rhythm. Western also kept high scoring Danette DeCorte in check holding her to six points in the first half. Meanwhile the Warriors took advantage of the turnover scoring fifteen points and leading at the half 25-14.

While both teams came out pressing in the second half, they both settled into their half court offense. Then Central switched to a half-court trap defense. The press and the trap caused fits with Western. This resulted in steals and lost balls finding their way into Danette DeCorte's hands and at 2:32, the Wolves had tied Western.

Making matters worse, the Warriors were without Jessica Costello during this period as she tended to a twisted ankle. When Costello returned with two minutes to play, so did the Western lead. Starting with a Mallory Sebald triple, the Warriors took back the lead, 38-34 at the end of the quarter.

Wild is the way to describe the fourth quarter. Both teams slugged it out with steals and great defensive stops on both ends of the court. With three minutes to play and sporting a three point lead, Central went into a stall content to eat up the clock and looking for a high percentage shot. But steals and missed shots let Western climb back into the game.

Down 52-50, Western was forced to foul Danette DeCorte with eleven seconds to play. When she missed the first and made the second, Western quickly moved the ball down the court. But the shot was blocked giving the Wolves a 53-50 victory.

Free throws ended up being a key factor in the game. Western made 6 of 14 free throws while Central managed 11 of 22.

Central was paced by Danette DeCorte who scored 25 points, 19 of them in the second half. Hailey Covieo added 8 points for the Lady Wolves.

Western was paced by Jessica Costello with thirteen points. Mallory Sebald added nine points with Janae Gillard knocking down eight.
