Breaking records is always rewarding, especially when the record is accompanied by a win. But in a game were every point counts, breaking a school scoring record is that much more rewarding. On this night, Millington's Kayla Doshier not only scored 26 points to lead her team to victory, those points set a Millington school scoring record of 1,035 breaking Ashley Borcherding's record of 1,015 points that she set in 2001.

Millington came out of the gates strong building an early six point lead in the first quarter. But as the Lady Warriors went to a full press, the energy sparked their offense. Fighting back, Western was able to make up the margin being only down my one point at the end of the quarter, 20-19.

Scoring slowed considerably for both teams as they tightened up their defenses. With Western running a tight zone defense, the two teams deadlocked at 23 all for a while. Just when it seemed that Millington might start to pull away, Western fought back thanks, in part to strong inside play preventing any second shots by the Cardinals. The strong defenses kept the scoring to 30-27 Millington at the half.

Millington came out of the break strong and built an 8 point lead. But Western, who has been played well as of late, began moving the ball around more efficiently. With the help of some timely free throws, the Warriors were able to climb back into the game only being down by 2 going into the fourth quarter, 40-38.

The close play continued in the final quarter as Western fought back to tie the game half way through the quarter. But the tight defense and need to keep Doshier under control put the slick ball handling senior on the line nineteen times that night. Doshier made them pay as she hit 16 of her free throws (84%). Down the stretch Western kept it tied until Millington hit a three pointer with 1:45 to play to take a 3 point lead. Western pulled to within two points when Ashley Gavitt iced the game with 12 seconds left hitting two free throws for a 51-47 Cardinal win.
