Back to back games can be tough both physically and mentally. Central experienced that Thursday night as they came out a little flat against a cranked up Flint Northern team. But the scrappy wolves made many wish they hadn't left at half time as they almost came back from a 27 point deficit to make the game very exciting.

Flint Northern came up inspired as they took it to the Wolves. Attaching the ball, they swooped in taking the ball away and quickly built a 14-2 lead. Central was clearly flat and rattled as they threw passes away and missed shots. But they started to pull it together near the end of the first quarter to salvage a 23-10 score.

While the Wolves tried to build some momentum by attacking the basket, the much quicker Flint team swatting the ball away and intercepting passes resulting in quick points on the other end. At times, the play got a little choppy as Central picked up fouls and Flint ran them off the court with a scoring advantage of 22-7 for a halftime lead of 44-17.

But that was the first half.

A whole different Central team took the floor for the second half. "We told the kids they had to step it up and they did," said an exhausted Coach Mike Maciejewski. Showing much more hustle and determination, the Wolves took it to their guests from Flint. With hot shooting including 15 points in the quarter from Deon Martin, the Wolves exploded for 31 points to draw within 14, 62-48.

The fourth quarter saw much the same. An aggressive confident Central team had awaken Flint and this lead to a very spirited high energy quarter that had the fans shouting. As the Wolves worked closer, they seem to run out of gas and Flint would have bursts to stay ahead. In the end the mountain on back to back nights was too high as Flint Northern held off Central, 88-72.

"When you dig yourself in a hole, you get down early," noted Coach Maciejewski. We missed a lot of easy shots. When you do that, you have to step it up on defense. Kids get frustrated when they keep looking up at that scoreboard and see 6-2, 8-2, and now its 14-2 then 16-5. You know if you made a couple of those easy shots the score is a lot different."

Central was led by Deon Marin's 20 points with Derek Kelly adding 15 and Mike Schepper scoring 14. Carlos Benton led Flint Northern with 22 points while JoeMar Black added 20 and Shaquille Smith chipped in 17.
