What on earth are we here for

Living The Dream . . . What does that mean? And What are We Living For?

I'm sure many people have different answers for that . . . but . . . I'm thinking there should only be one.

I don't think it's to see how comfortable we can make our living with materialistic possessions and how happy 'we' can be.

I think it's more important to make others happy rather then to concentrate on making ourselves happy . . . and try to live our lives the way God intended us to. (And be happy because of that)

Are you happy? Do we need to be happy? Is it a need or a want? What effect does it have on us. (I will get to that in my next blog)

I am grateful and thankful for everything in my life.

In our busy world, and especially now in hard economic times, do you ever sit down and take the time to think of how much there is to be grateful for.

Our job, health, home, family, friendships. Everything we have (or own) is given to us from God. That includes our eyesight, our hearing, our ability to walk, etc. At anytime, these things or these people can be taken away or stripped from our lives - just like that!

(Enjoy and embrace the moments with people who are in your life now.)

With lent just around the corner, thoughts of sacrifice, giving up something you enjoy - These things should be on your mind. What are the simple things you enjoy in life?

For me, hot baths/jacuzzi, cappuccinos, heat from a fireplace, a friendly smile or gesture from a stranger or someone you love, beautiful scenery, nature, sunrise, sunset - to name a few.

How about favorite possessions that make you comfortable? Favorite clothes? A comfortable bed? Favorite foods or beverages?

This blog is dedicated to a MyBayCity reader that reminded me that I needed to update my second floor column, laff -- Thanks.

It also reminded me of how important it is to take time out for personal things in life beside being totally engrossed in your career/job. Although, every morning when I wake up, I thank God for having a job (and pray for people that don't) and for the beautiful day he has made, whether it be snow storm , rain shower or sunshine, or what ever hardships or struggles the day my bring.

Remember, it Can or Could be worse.

This reminds me of the novel I've read, THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE - "What On Earth Are We Here For" (A Bestseller by Rick Warren) Ever read it? Would you like to?, I would be happy to lend it to you. smile( julie@mybaycity.com )

PS. For inquiring minds . . .(Still trying to get video of the Damn cat)

Wow!!! Touched!!!
Julie...this is a wonderful article. I agree totally.
With lent just around the corner my sacrifice won't be giving up something that I enjoy, but rather giving with the hopes of sharing joy.
May I borrow your book?

Julie,

This hits the mark on all issues. If we start to concentrate on how much we dont have, things will only get worse becuase of our outlook.

1) This is Michigan, we have had hard times before and we will change and survive.

2) Stop and smell the roses, & tell people your care before it is too Late. ( I know from experiance, It is bad if you don't )

3) Purpose Drive Life - changed my life. we should read it every few years. I have a copy to lend also.
It is that good.

Thanks for your posting.
