Garber entered the game not only looking to sweep Birch Run for the first time since 2001, but more importantly, to pull into a tie for second place in the conference. Except for a hick up in the second quarter, they showed the determination worthy of those goals.

The Dukes started the first quarter showing solid movement and team ball. But Birch Run covered tightly from the outside and both teams made it tough in the middle. It was the Duke's passing and penetrating dishes that pulled them ahead 17-10.

Garber pulled out to a 10 point lead starting the second quarter and seemed in command. But when Brett Eichhorn had to leave the game with his third foul, Garber lost their field general and Birch Run took advantage. Pressuring the Dukes, they converted missed shots and turnovers into point taking a 32-31 halftime lead.

Birch Run continued their momentum in the third quarter as Garber showed little spark but kept pace. Much like the previous Frankenmuth game, the Duke guards exploded with smothering defense led by Brett Eichhorn, Jake Hebert and Jesse Kenniston. Those steals turned into quick points. Then when Birch Run tried to go inside, Garber's Mike Schroeder swatted the shot as he blocked 6 shots for the game. This defense tallied seven quick points to propel the Dukes to a 46-39 lead by the end of the third quarter.

Garber looked to spread their lead as the quick handed guards generated turnovers for quick points. But Birch Run started inching back causing Garber to try and slow things down. This threw the Dukes out of their rhythm as missed shots resulted in fast points for the Panthers.

But Garber held off the Panthers for a 61-50 win.
