Right from the get-go the Cougar's first district game turned into a defensive battle. Halfway through the first period the score was only 4-2 favoring the Cougars who had struck first. Late in the first period however the game finally picked up some momentum.

The Cougars' offense found a weakness in the Port Hope Blue Stars defense and quickly racked up a 10-4 lead over their foe. But the Blue Stars weren't going to give up just yet. Offensive surges from Blue Star #31 Kayla Gust (game high scorer with 20 points) tied the game up with nearly two minutes to go in the period. Luckily for the Cougars, #24 Ashley Bowker and #20 Molly Neymeiyer and the rest of the Cougar defenders were able to hold the Blue Stars at ten points, as well as score twice more to take the first period lead 14-10.

The Cougars surged again on offense and, after a timely 3-pointer from #24 Bowker, the Cougars were looking good again with the score at 19-14. But once again the Blue Stars fought their way back into the game after scoring a 3-pointer of their own. The Cougars continued to use their pressing offense to keep the game going in their favor, while at the same time laboring to keep the Blue Stars from establishing a lead of their own. Thanks to a last minute rally from the Cougar starters, All Saints kept their lead going into the second half 26-21.

The third period was arguably the best period of basketball the lady Cougars have played this season. The Cougars versatile offense struck from everywhere to build their lead up, almost to the point where it took a miracle for the Blue Stars to get back into the fray. While the Cougars' offense pounded the Blue Stars with everything they had, All Saints battle hardened defense managed to shut down the Blue Stars offense almost entirely - the Blue Stars only scored one scant point off of a free-throw in the entire third period. Thanks to the stellar third period of play the Cougars held a huge 42-22 lead over the faltering Blue Stars.

The Cougars' tough defense encountered a strange turn of event in the final period however. Down by 20 points, the desperate Blue Stars changed their tactics to shooting for the 3-pointers. Amazingly, the Blue Stars scored five 3-pointers from incredible distances in the final period. With about two minutes left in the game the score stood at 52-39. Fortunately for the Cougars, the Blue Stars were tired and did not have the endurance to finish their miraculous comeback. The Cougars carried the day 55-48.

All Saints girls' varsity coach Duane Gorlewski says that, when the Cougars went off the court during intermission he told his team to "Tighten up defensively." Senior #10 Brittany Case; who, along with #12 Jeanie Heintskill and #24 Ashley Bowker, had 12 points each, said the Cougars "Worked as a team", and that their "Intensity was up."

The Lady Cougars will return to the site of their battle with Port Hope to take on the powerful team that calls that gym their home; the North Huron Warriors. In order for the Cougars to defeat the Warriors Coach Gorlewski says that "If we play our game and keep up our intensity we'll be alright." Brittany also showed confidence in her team's ability to beat North Huron when she said "We need to stay calm, and play some great Cougar basketball like we know we can!"
