February 26th, 2008. That was the last time the All Saints Cougars met on the court with the Port Hope Bluestars. The final score of that game was an astounding 60-6. Now, one year later, the Cougars faced off with the Bluestars once again, this time competing for a place in the District Finals.

Just like last year, the Cougars won the tip-off and immediately controlled the game. While the Cougar starting line dominated on offense, they also put All Saints trademark defense to good use, effectively shutting down all Bluestar opportunities. The Bluestars tried desperately to get something going, but the Cougars rebounding, and solid defense proved to much for them. At the end of the first period the Cougars held the lead in a 29-0 shutout.

Though the Bluestars were able to pull off an early 3-pointer to break the shutout, the Cougars second line gave the Bluestars almost as much trouble as the starters had. The Cougars defense managed to keep Port Hope's dormant offense suppressed while at the same time adding significantly to their lead on the scoreboard. At the end of the first half the game was all but won for All Saints, with the score at 56-7.

The Cougars yielded only four points to Port Hope in the third period, and added another ten to their own total. The Cougars superiority was cemented with the score at 66-11 at the end of the third period. Nothing short of a miracle could undermine the Cougars colossal lead. The Cougars gave up 15 points in the fourth period (more than all the other periods combined), but it was too little, way to late. The Cougars had spent the last period building their lead up to an 81-26 route that earned them a place in the District Championship.

The Cougars all contributed to this victory. All Saints head coach Mike Showalter expressed this fact when he stated he's "just glad everyone scored." Showalter, who, for the second game in a row, let everyone on the Cougar bench have a piece of the action says he's "looking forward to next year" already; but he quickly added "we've still got some work to finish up here."

Indeed they do. The Cougars will face off on Friday against the North Huron Warriors - the same team they beat last year 73-68 to claim their district title. The Warriors are undefeated this season and hailed as the 4th best Class D team in Michigan. The Cougars don't seem that phased however. Drew Bauer #22 , who was the Cougar top scorer for the night with 13 points, says "we need to come ready to play an A plus game".
