T.L. Handy Group Seeks Nominations for Distinguished Alumni Award

Nominations Due by May 22 for Honoree to be Selected by Committee, Faculty

Nominations are requested from the public for T.L. Handy High School Distinguished Alumni for past T.L. Handy High School graduates.

The high school operated from 1946 to 1990 and remains a middle school, the status of the school from 1922 to 1945.

This Distinguished Alumni Award has recently been re-established as a tribute to former graduates of T. L. Handy High School who have achieved distinction in the field of art, business, education, medicine, politics, social work, or sports.

A nominee must be a T. L. Handy graduate of 19 years or more and must demonstrate one or more of the following criteria:

1.) Significant contribution in professional career or field

2.) Exceptional involvement in community service

3.) Outstanding personal achievement that has enhanced society

A Distinguished Alumni Award nomination should include:

1.) A letter of introduction with the nominee's full name, address, and phone number.

2.) A description of the nominee's professional career, community service, or personal accomplishments.

3.) The nominee's year of graduation from T. L. Handy High School.

4.) The submission of two letters of recommendation or reference from individuals acquainted with the nominee's professional contributions, community service, or personal achievements.

A photograph and biography of the nominee will be housed in one of the T. L. Handy Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame display cases located in Handy Middle School.

A selection committee, consisting of T. L. Handy alumni and past faculty, will determine the 2009 nominee who will be awarded this honor.

Nominations for the T. L. Handy Distinguished Alumni Award may be submitted to: Handy Middle School, 601 Blend St., Bay City, MI 48706., Attention: Kate Hodge - Handy High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.

The deadline for nominations to the T.L. Handy Distinguished Alumni Award will be on Monday, May 22, 2009.
