Now . . . That's a WAD of Cash
I've been writing columns and covering sports for over 40 years.
Until today, I have never (I swear) used the word "wad" in an article or newspaper column.
Just today, I have seen the word "wad" in two headlines. Twice in one day.
How can that happen? The Bay City Times reported: Applegate man turns in found wad of cash
My knee-jerk reaction was . . . How much money is in a "wad of cash?" (Then I thought . . . Why did he use the word . . . wad?
So I started re-searching.
Found this report in a San Jose California online report: Aptos man loses $3,700, neighbor finds wad of cash (now . . . that's a wad of cash) "Money was flying everywhere," said the finder of the wad.
Morse (the loser of the wad) had gotten off work that Saturday evening and was running errands before meeting with his family for dinner. He had the money bundled in rubber bands and placed inside the letter-sized outer pocket of his leather backpack. (IDIOT) But when he arrived home, his backpack was agape and its contents were gone.
Just an FYI . . . I have also never used "agape" in 40+ years of reporting although I'm sure I've been "agape" during that period of time. (My wallet was agape and my money was gone.) (Her mouth was agape but no sound came out)
MyBayCity is obviously behind the times in its usage of new and descriptive terms.
Maybe MyBayCity should use the word "agape" and "wad" in every article this week on MyBayCity. I'll try to work it into every article when I proof columns and articles.
RESEARCH CONTINUES: I chatted online with my daughter (age 22) this morning and asked her how much money she thought would be in a "wad of cash." -- "$50," she said.
I also asked Entertainment and "night-life" professional Julie McCallum the same question. "$34-$40," she said.
I think a wad of cash has to be at least $500. That would probably explain why I never used the word in an article or column before today. Who has that kind of cash in their pocket?
Anyway . . . I hear (from Entertainment professional, Julie McCallum) that Whitesnake is coming to Bay City for River Roar this summer. I'm sure you're gonna need a wad of cash when the doors to that concert swing agape.
