Lawmaker Serves As Chair of House Energy And Technology Committee

State Representative Jeff Mayes (D-Bay City) today announced that he has been named to the Energy Committee for the Council of State Governments (CSG) Midwestern Legislative Conference. Mayes will join lawmakers from across the Midwest in pursuit of regional cooperation on policy issues.
"I'm honored to be named to this committee, and I plan to take the lessons we've learned here in Michigan on energy issues in order to promote regional cooperation," Mayes said. "With our unique geography and our efforts to grow renewable energy development here in the state, Michigan is poised to become a leader in energy issues."
Mayes, who was named Chair of the House Energy and Technology Committee in January, was appointed to the CSG Energy Committee by House Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Township). The committee provides lawmakers from across the Midwest the opportunity to exchange ideas and information in order to come to solutions on problems unique to the region.
The Midwestern Legislative Conference is a regional association of state legislatures that represents 11 Midwestern states, including Michigan. The conference is a part of the Council of State Governments, which is a nonpartisan, non profit organization dedicated to improving state government.
"The renewable energy industry is growing by leaps and bounds every year, and we need to make sure that Michigan is getting its fair share of economic investment," Mayes said. "I will use this opportunity to fight on behalf of Michigan workers and businesses to ensure they're not left behind as we work to diversify our energy economy and embrace the new technologies of the 21st century."
