Central entered the match looking to climb back into Saginaw Valley contention. But Western had other ideas as the Warriors kicked their way to a 3-1 league win.

The first half the two teams played evenly matched with their taking control of the scoreboard. But with just over two minutes to play in the first half, freshman forward, DruAnne Brogren spotted Stephanie Ross in the open and literally used her head to get her the ball. Once the senior forward received the pass, she booted it in for a 1-0 half time lead.

"The first half we were a little nervous being it was a cross town rivalry game and a Valley Game," noted Western Coach Jacquelyn Robinson. "We weren't getting good touches. We were not passing the ball to our own teammates. We were not playing as a team." It wasn't long before the Warriors took their coaches advice of controlling the game. Just over four minutes in the second half, Brogren lifted a long shot that went just under the cross bar to give Western a 2-0 advantage.

"At half time, we talked about composure on the ball," stated Coach Robinson of Western. "Sitting Back and taking our first touches, controlling that ball and getting at the ball to our teammates," was the message she sent to her team. And this worked as the Warriors sought to control the game by controlling possession.

But Central kept working hard, challenging every possession. This paid off Lauren Rapson drilled a long-distance goal with 11:11 left to play to draw Central within one. But Central couldn't find the equalizer the rest of the way.

Western sealed the victory with 17 seconds left in the game as Stephanie Ross notched her second goal of the game making it a 3-1 Western victory.

Central's freshman keeper, Abby Baranski, stopped 16 shots to keep the Wolves in the game while Western goal-keepers, Kasey Neetz and Dana Schwandt shared duties in stopping 6 Wolf shots.

With the win, Western improved their league record to 5-1, 8-2-2 overall while Central fell to 2-2-1, 4-2-2 overall.
