In a league where one loss can make a huge difference, both Garber and Caro were looking to keep pace with Frankenmuth by sweeping a doubleheader. But tough pitching and determination resulted in a split as Caro won the first game 3-2 and the Dukes came back in the nightcap to claim a 6-1 victory.

Vanessa Taylor led off the game for Caro with a double to left. Then Amanda Ellis worked a bunt single bringing in the first Caro run. After Ellis had moved to third, Tricia Petiprin was hit by a pitch ultimately putting runners on second and third. Then Andrea Henry notched a single to center bringing in two more runs giving the Tigers a 3 run lead.

Courtney Ellis made these runs stand up as she scattered nine hits over the seven innings.

Garber saw their first and only real rally some in the fourth inning. Caitlyn Keuvelaar led off the inning with a sharp single to center. Nicole Wood then pushed a bunt past the pitcher for a single putting runners on first and second. Then Kara Brewer helped her cause by singling to bring in Keuvelaar. Stephanie Schaffer singled to load the bases. Carly Weiler grounded into a force at home getting Wood keeping the score 3-1. Then Rachael Bowker single bringing in the second run. That was all for Garber as Ellis got the next batter on a ground out to end the inning.

Garber showed signs of a rally in the fifth inning as Molly Braun and Nicole Wood singled but Garber could not get the runner further than second base and Caro hung on for a 3-2 win.

In the nightcap, Garber was the visiting team and looked to jump on Ellis early. Rachael Bowker led off with a single. Then with two outs, Caitlyn Keuvelaar singled putting runners on first and second. Ellis then bared down getting the final out to keep it 0-0.

The game settled into a pitchers duel until the top of the fourth inning. Caitlyn Keuvelaar led off with a line drive homerun sparking some life into the Garber attack. Nicole Wood then worked a walk and Katie Neering singled to put runners on first and second. After Brewer bunted the runners over, Stephanie Shaffer and Carly Weiler got them home on infield grounders to put Garber ahead, 3-0.

Caro showed signs of responding when Amanda Ellis double and moved to third. But Neering went after the hitters striking out the last two hitters.

Garber looked to pad the lead when Janelle Urban led off the fifth with a single. After Molly Braun sacrificed Urban to second, Caro walked Keuvelaar and were then able to get the next two batters without allowing a run.

Caro then broke onto the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fifth as Courtney Ellis helped her cause with a single driving in Karisa Cody who had walked earlier. Garber came right back in the top of the sixth with two more runs. Brewer singled and moved to second on a Shaffer sacrifice bunt. Then Carly Weiler doubled her home and Urban singled Weiler home making it a 5-1 game.

The Dukes added the final run of the game in the seventh when Wood walked and later was singled home by Brewer.

While both teams now have two losses in league play, they each have a single make up game with undefeated Frankenmuth soon to be played.
