Taking advantage of every opportunity is the key to winning games. And Caro did that twice to defeat Garber 2-1 and 8-7.

In the opening game, Caro's Rexford Fritz and Garber's Jordan Scherzer squared off to pitch two great games for their teams. Caro was only able to muster two hits off of Scherzer. But they made those hits count. In the top of the third inning, Mike Daniel led off with a single and stole second. Tim Curtis singled but an error by Scherzer let Daniel score and allowed Curtis to take second. Then an outfield fly error brought in Curtis for Caro's only runs of the game.

As strong as Scherzer pitched, Fritz was equal to the task. Scattering five hits over seven innings, he kept Garber from mounting much of an attack. In the sixth inning, the Dukes were able to put together two hits by David Laskowski and Jordan Reames to generate a run. But that was as close as the Dukes would get as the Tigers pulled out a 2-1 victory.

The second game saw more base path action. Caro scored first in the bottom of the second on a single by Jake Sattelberg and an infield error giving Caro a 1-0 lead.

Caro then exploded for five runs in the third. Following a leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt, Mike Greene singled Tim Curtis home. After a walk to Jared Vinson, Sattelberg double to bring home a run. Then three straight infield errors led to more runs as Caro built a 6-0 lead after three innings.

Garber quickly responded with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Four straight singles by David Laskowski, Jordan Reames, Ryan Schultz and Jordan Scherzer produced two runs. But Caro got out of the inning with the bases loaded when they got the dangerous hitting Laskowski to ground out to third making the score 6-2, Caro.

Caro added another run in the bottom half of the inning when Caleb Licavoli led off with a single and was bunted twice to third base. Then Jared Vinson single him home making it 7-2.

Garber then tied it up in the top of the sixth inning. Thanks in part to a couple walks and fielding errors by Caro, all sandwiched around singles by Schultz, Cullen Kwap and David Laskowski, the Dukes had knotted the score at 7.

But this was Caro's night as the Tigers responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth on a double by Licavoli and a single by Greene to finish off Garber 8-7.

Both teams combined for seven errors, a sharp contrast to the first games. But it was the timely hitting that set the teams apart on this night.
