After going 14 innings in their first meeting before a winner was decided, many was expecting a similar contest. While it started out that way, Garber errors turned into Frankenmuth runs as the Eagles soared to an 8-2 victory completing a sweep of the doubleheader started the week before.

For the first three innings, neither team could get anything started offensively as Heather Schultz of Frankenmuth and Katie Neering of Garber were sharp. Each team was showing strong defense that characterized their first meeting and the fans were settled in for another long contest. Then came the fourth inning and everything changed.

After the leadoff batter popped up for an out, Jordan Skiba ripped a double to left center getting things started for the Eagles. Ashley Hool hit a ground ball to second that went through the legs of the infielder allowing Skiba score for the Eagles first run.

When Mary Ellen Seutter singled to left, Hool took third. But the throw back in to second base eluded the infielder allowing Hool to score. Two wild pitches later, Seutter was on second with Frankenmuth looking for more. Chelsea Bender hit a grounder to short producing another Lady Duke error and allowing another run putting the Eagles on top, 3-0.

Garber looked to respond in their half of the fourth. After Molly Braun was hit by a pitch forcing her to leave the game, Caitlyn Keuvelaar ripped a single to left putting runners on first and second with only one out. But Heather Schultz got the next batter to pop up to first and struck out the second to end the threat.

The Lady Dukes finally broke into the scoring column in the bottom of the fifth. Kara Brewer led off with a triple. After a walk to Stephanie Shaffer, Carly Weiler grounded out to short bringing in Brewer to pull Garber to within two runs, 3-1.

Frankenmuth got the run back in the top of the sixth inning. Hool singled to lead things off. Bender then hit a grounder to third producing another Duke error placing runners on first and second. Jillian Sipes singled her home giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

Garber was poised for a comeback in the bottom of the sixth. After LaShae Radeka singled, Caitlyn Keuvelaar double, her third hit of the game, to right center sending Radeka to third. Nicole Wood grounded out to short allowing Radeka to score. Then Katie Neering laced a line shot destined for the gap but somehow found its way into second baseman Jillian Sipes' glove ending the Garber threat and preserving the Eagle lead at 4-2.

Then the wheels came off the Garber wagon. Schultz helped her cause by leading off with a triple to the fence. After a walk to Sam Cormier, Skiba singled home Schultz. Then a high fly ball to left was miss played resulting in the first of three errors this inning. This miscue brought in two more Eagle runs. Sipes grounder to short was kicked to the fence bringing Seutter to third. Frankenmuth scored their final run when a grounder to third with two outs was dropped at first allowing Seutter to score making it 8-2.

Frankenmuth appeared ready to return the miscue favor in the bottom of the seventh. An error at third put Stephanie Shaffer on first. Carly Weiler single putting runners on first and second with one out. But when Shaffer was gunned down trying to advance to third on a ball in the dirt, things look bleak for the Dukes. Schultz got the next batter to pop up a bunt attempt ending the game and the hopes of Garber to climb back into the TVC race.

Heather Schultz went the distance for Frankenmuth by striking out seven batter. Sarah Rummel and Jordan Skiba paced the 10 hit attack with two hits apiece.

For Garber, Katie Neering also went the distance striking out seven batters. Caitlyn Keuvelaar lead the six hit Lady Duke attack by going three for three.
