Michigan To Move Forward With Efforts From Non-Profit Organization

Michigan Forward Is A For Progressive, Forward Thinking Policy

Michigan Forward is a new non-profit, non-partisan organization that will focus on forward thinking public policy and initiatives for the urban center.

Michigan Forward was founded by Brandon Jessup, who now serves as it's Executive Director. Michigan Forward is compromised of a board of directors, led by its elected chairman David Wiggins. Since it's inception, in the Spring of 2008 Michigan Forward has begun to research, strategize and advocate around public policy issues that will affect Michigan's urban centers.

Today, Michigan Forward will release opinions and analysis on national and statewide legislation that will both have great impacts on Michigan's urban centers. These issue brief will provide guidance and information to the legislators and public as well. Michigan Forward will provide in-depth analysis and opinion on the Performance Rights Act and the Regional Convention Facility Authority Act and its companion bills.

Issue briefs are just one example of the work that will be done by Michigan Forward.

Over the next several months Michigan Forward will also unveil:

* Forward Conversations -- a discussion series that exposes its attendees to domestic and foreign issues that shape the urban center socially, politically or economically

* Project Emerge -public policy development and initiatives focused on economics, education and energy

* Urban Economic Forum - an event that will bring together the business and political community to discuss issues that will help to build Michigan's local economies

* Politrac - an online tool that will track legislation passed in Michigan by both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The leadership of Michigan Forward has a proved track record as advocates on the local, statewide and national stage. Wiggins, born and raised in Detroit, Mich, and currently serves as an educator in Florida's Public School System and is a former member of the NAACP National Board of Directors. Wiggins is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and has received numerous awards and accolades for his commitment to civil service.

Jessup recently served as the Voter Protection Advocate for the state of Michigan with the Advancement Project. He has also served in the capacity as Regional Coordinator for One United Michigan, the campaign created to oppose and defeat Proposal 2, the anti-Affirmative Action Initiative. Jessup is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and is a well sought after political consultant and speaker.
