Monday Night Baseball at EHLL saw American Legion and Bay Landscaping battle it out. While control pitching dominated most of the game, it was walks that ultimately decided the contest as Bay Landscaping pulled out a 2-1 win in the sixth inning.

Hard throwing Nick Ratajczak took the mound for American Legion and proved too tough to hit. In the three innings he pitched, he struck out 8 while giving up one base runner on a fielding error.

Joseph Foret took the mound for the Landscapers and kept the Legions in check over the three and a third innings he pitched. But the third inning saw the Legions get on the board. After striking out the leadoff batter, Foret walked four batters in a row to bring in the Legion's only run. Then a deep breath and a battling spirit took over as he got the next batter on a pop-up to second then struck out the next batter.

After reaching a pitch count, Andrew Kotewa took over for the Landscapers in the fourth with one on and one out. Kotewa promptly got out of the inning when Nathan Andress hit a hot shot to second. Second baseman Jeremy Morse gloved the ball, firing to shortstop who tagged the base and gunned to Joseph Foret at first to complete the double play.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bay Landscaping struck back with a two out rally. With two outs, Aaron Bookmyer was hit by a pitch. Three straight walks brought in the tying run. Then heads up base running by Andrew Kotewa brought home the winning run. Ready at third, he broke on a pass ball and beat the tag at the plate to take the lead and score the games final run, 2-1.

Kotewa then sealed the deal by in the sixth. After giving up a leadoff walk to Brendyn Claerhout, he struck out the next two batters and got the final out on a grounder to second.

As competitive and determined the players were, it was nice to hear players from each bench call out to the opposing players congratulating them on a nice hit or play.

The major boys finished up league play on Wednesday and now prepare for the County tournament and the All-stars. Good luck to all the teams.
