The EH Lions Club used big hitting to put up 17 runs in four innings. As mighty as the bats were, the pitching was just as overpowering as they shut down a usually aggressive Firehouse team defeating the SoftWashers 17-0.

The Lions came out with a roar in the first inning. Erica Treiber threw smoke getting all three outs on strike outs. In the bottom of the inning, they scored four runs. After Allison Hoppe walked, Gabrielle Neuman singled and Kayla Gremel laid down a beautiful bunt single to score a run. Erica Treiber doubled to bring in two more runs before Jessica Fritz brought her home on an infield grounder making the score 4-0.

Erica Treiber struck out the side in the second inning to keep the Lion's momentum going. The bottom of the second played like a radio station as the hits just kept coming. Emily Vanshepson led off with a single to left center field. Then after a strikeout, five consecutive singles by Allison Hoppe, Gabrielle Neuman Kayla Gremel, Erica Treiber and Kendall Schaus produced five more runs making it 9-0 in favor of the EH Lions after two.

Kayla Gremel came in to pitch the third inning for the Lions. After getting the first batter on strikes, Julia Weller single but was out attempting to steal second base. But Fireside showed determination. After Teayrra Thomas worked a full count walk, back to back singles by Breanna Dinsmoore and Aimee Walraven had the bases loaded and the SoftWashers knocking at the door. But Kayla Gremel continued to throw strikes on the corners getting the next batter to fly out to second base ending the threat.

Lions added two more in the third inning on a Erika Wilson walk and an Emily Vanshepson single to make it 11-0. The Lions continued their fierce hitting attack as they added 6 more runs in the fourth inning. Singles by Neuman, Treiber, Schaus and Vanshepson helped produce those runs and led the Lions to a 17-0 mauling of the SoftWashers.

Both teams conclude their regular season next week. On Wednesday, E-H Lions takes on Vassar at 7pm while Firehouse plays Bay Landscaping at 5pm.
