The Bay City Country Club, 7255 S. Three Mile Road, is pursuing options to restructure the club and ensure its continued existence.
Jim Gerding, (pictured at right) president of the board of directors of BCCC, reported in a recent edition of the club newsletter, The Link, that the club recently reached a tentative agreement with lender Terra Marketing L.L.C.
The Bay City Country Club was founded in 1898 as a privately owned Members Club. In 2009 the club opened its doors to semi-private play for the first time and currently has limited availability for play by non-members.
The golf course, designed by Lawrence Packard, past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, has been a site for the Professional Golf Association (PGA) preliminary rounds in the past.
Mr. Packard is designer of the Copperhead course at Innisbrook, Florida, that ranks in the top 50 in the world for resort courses.
Mr. Gerding said the agreement with the financing firm allows the club to move forward on eliminating debt, a step he said is essential to the club's survival.
Mr. Gerding credited attorney Sue Cook and the firm of Lambert, Leser, Isackson, Cook & Giunta PC for work in court proceedings held May 20 and other negotiations with the lender.
A special shareholder meeting was held June 25 to seek approval of the Terra settlement agreement and consider changes to the bylaws, according to David Dean, manager.
Scott Carmona is vice-president/treasurer of the club, secretary is Paul Markey and board members are Keith Rowley and Tom Rehmus.
According to Ed Bialek, PGA professional at the club, golf events scheduled include the club championship July 24-26; president's stag day Aug. 5; ladies invitational Aug. 6; family scramble Aug. 9; member-member tournament Aug. 14-16; and glow ball Aug. 21.
The club has a large swimming pool and pool memberships are available. The dining room is a longtime attraction for both individual dining and private parties such as weddings, anniversaries and group meetings.###
